RICHARD G. BALBON

It is with sadness, we announce the passing of Richard Balbon on Monday, April 4, 2022 at Health Sciences Centre.
Richard was born on August 31, 1942 in Winnipeg to parents, Joseph and Pauline Balbon. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Maxine (nee Leonard) of 50 years; their son John; father Joseph Balbon; sister Doreen (Klaus) Lettmann and numerous extended family members.
Richard was predeceased by his mother Pauline (Tkachyk) Balbon and close friend Don Gislason.
He grew up in the west end and attended Summerset, Hugh John McDonald schools and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. He honed his skills in the drafting trade at Red River College. Richard was employed as a draftsman at consultant engineering firms: Crippen Acres, ID and Teshmont.
Richard enjoyed reading, cycling and walking. Being somewhat of an introvert, he did enjoy company on a smaller scale. He liked music – mostly classic rock, spending numerous hours listening to old vinyl records. He learned to play the guitar at a young age. His artistic talents in both oil paintings and portrait sketches graced our walls. Above all, he enjoyed reading on topics of economics, culture, Einstein's theories, historical events and astronomy. A small library collected in our home.
Special thanks go out to HSC (SICU and GD3 ward) staff for their passionate care of Richard in his final days, and to One Family Fitness Centre in helping to enhance his strength and mobility.
A memorial service is to be held at a later date. Please contact immediate family for further information.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
