GERALD SWITZER
1941 - 2022

Too soon and after a brief illness, Gerry passed away in the early morning of April 4, 2022 at Action Marguerite in St. Boniface at 80 years of age.
As best friends and the loves of each other's lives, he leaves behind his beloved wife Barbara after over 58 years of marriage. His children and grandchildren were a source of great pride and love. Trevor, Tara (Danielle and Logan), Michael, Lori (Josh, Easton and Jay Jay). Also, his much-loved nephew and niece, Terry (Lorna), Robin (Ray), their families and the extended North family.
Gerry was predeceased by his parents, Clarence (Ted) and Owena; his brother Tom; sister Helen; and in-laws, Herb and Iris North.
Gerry was an avid hunter, fisherman, builder and lake-lover where some of his most special memories and friendships were made and the knowledge he had gained was passed along to all who followed.
Gerry was a business owner in St. James for many years and before and after retiring, he and Barbara with very special friends, travelled most of Canada and much of the world. Sailing in the Caribbean, travels to Europe, Mexico and finally, Texas, where many dances and rounds of golf kept him busy and happy. Gerry will be missed terribly and loved forever.
Special thanks to the caregivers at Action Marguerite.
Donations in Gerry's memory would be greatly appreciated by the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 -120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
Service to be held at a later date.

  • To Barb & Family: Sincere sympathy on Gerry's passing. We haven't seen Gerry for a long time but whenever we ran into each other it was always fun to talk to him. He was an interesting, capable guy and a devoted family man. Thinking about him brings back the "old days" in St. James. Wishing him happy hunting and fishing where he is now. • To: Barb, Trevor, Tara, Mike My heartfelt condolences on your loss, hard to imagine Gerry not being around, it seems like it was just too soon. To: Gerry...I will see you on the other side, and we can shoot arrows, sit around a campfire and tell tall tales about the ones we missed, and maybe even have a cold beer or shot of Rum. Until then..! Ron "Buck" Breland - Posted by: Ron Breland (Friend and hunting buddy) on: Apr 12, 2022

  • We are saddened to learn of Gerry's passing. Many wonderful years living next to you folks in Sanford. Gerry always had an adventure to regale us with, be it of the lake or the farm. Gerry will be missed, but we have good memories of all the times spent chatting with Gerry in the backyard. Anita and I send our heartfelt condolences to you Barb and the family. - Posted by: Glen & Anita Schattner (Neighbours in Sanford,Mb) on: Apr 10, 2022

  • Barb and all the Switzer family. We are so sorry to hear about the passing of Gerry. Our condolences to all of you. I will remember all the summers spent at your cottage and the great times we had with Gerry. He taught as both how to fish and of course Sean how to filet them. Walking the portage back from Long Lake In the dark, I was always scared of bears, but as long as Gerry was there I was never afraid !! May Gerry Rest In Peace and know that our thoughts are will you. - Posted by: Sean and Catherine O’Dowda (Friend ) on: Apr 10, 2022

  • Barb: I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I remember when we were in residence and you spoke so lovingly of your "really big Ger". That seems so long ago and yet somehow like yesterday. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Pat Scott (nursing classmate of Barb's) - Posted by: Pat Scott (Friend) on: Apr 09, 2022
