VILLERS: It is with heavy hearts that the family announces that John Villers of Brandon, MB passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 7, 2022. John was born in Winnipeg, MB on December 31, 1937. He attended school in Brandon and during his teen years he worked at a gas station. Dad met the love of his life, Daphne (née Bird) and they married in 1957, together they raised four boys. He was employed at the Brandon Mental Health Centre as a psychiatric nurse and later became the supervisor of the central supply department. In 1993, he retired at the age of 55. Dad enjoyed woodworking and dedicated many years to the Wheat City Branch Legion 247, which he held a lifetime membership. He was a devoted member of St. Augustine's Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. As a season ticket holder for the Brandon Wheat Kings he enjoyed watching many hockey games. During the football season he would always be cheering for his favourite team, the Edmonton Eskimos. John was predeceased by his loving wife, Daphne in 2012. He is lovingly remembered by his family, sons: John (Yvonne), Mike (Heather), Tim (Michelle), Dave (Wanda); grandchildren, Russ (Wendy), Nicole (Allan), Ryan, Mathew (Kayla), Brayden, David (Jessica), Brittany and Brooke and great-grandchildren: Joel, Penny, Adam, Yannick, Jaxon, Noah, Kinsley and Archer. Our family would like to express our gratitude to Maribea for always being there for Dad. You will always have a special place in our lives. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 327 4th Street, on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. John Okosun as celebrant.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My name is Jim Pow and John was my cousin. We grew up together, got into trouble together. We had a wonderful childhood growing up. I was already booked to come to Brandon to spend some time with John in May. I just found out today of John's passing. I will miss him dearly. • I met your dad through the Legion Provincial Command in 2005. It was an absolute privilege to work with him. He was a kind and caring family man whom I respected. I will remember our lively conversations on our favourite football teams. My peace be with you all, as you mourn.
