WILLIAM FOSTER MATTOCKS

William Foster Mattocks, age 94, of Winnipeg, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2022, with family at his side.
Bill was born in Winnipeg in 1927. After the passing of his father at an early age, Bill and his mother moved to the Woodhaven community where Bill resided for 40 years. In 1949 he joined Trans-Canada Airlines, first in accounting and then in passenger service, and remained with the company until his retirement from Air Canada in 1991. In 1953 Bill married Hughine McKay and built a home in Woodhaven, together raising their family of three children.
In his younger years Bill enjoyed fishing, camping and skiing, transitioning later in life to reading and gardening. Always fond of aircraft, in retirement he volunteered at the Western Canada Aviation Museum. Bill also had a lifelong appreciation of fine beer, enjoying regular gatherings with friends and occasional trips to Britain to tour the pubs. He travelled frequently, primarily within Europe and North America but also to Asia.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, William and Emily May Mattocks. He is lovingly remembered by his sons, Bruce (Janet) and Gary (Christine), daughter Nancy (Barry) Baydock, and by his grandchildren, Alexandra, Reid and Jackson Mattocks, and Breanne Baydock.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Deer Lodge Centre, Tower Seven, for their outstanding care and friendship to Bill during his time there.
As per Bill's wishes no formal service will be held. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I first met Bill in 1973, where he was one of my supervisors. I knew from the start of our work relationship, that Bill was no one to mess with. To earn his respect all you had to do was to perform your duties. As such, I very much enjoyed working with Bill. Even though at times he expected a lot out of us, he had his softer side. One night after a very long difficult shift he took about half a dozen of us up to the Maple Lounge for a cold one. God bless you Bill & rest in peace. - Posted by: Ron MacKenzie (Friend & work mate) on: Apr 12, 2022
