BONNIE JEAN SKITCKO
(née KENNEDY)
Peacefully, on April 8, 2022, at the age of 78, Bonnie Jean Skitcko (née Kennedy), answered the call and went home to be with Jesus. We are certain that her husband John and son Nathan were the first to meet her at Heaven's door.
Bonnie was an amazing Mother and Nana. Left to miss her are her daughters, Shauna (Rino) and Leanne; her grandchildren, Dylan, Kyla and Tyler; and her granddogs, Giovanni and Benny. Her siblings predeceased her, but she also leaves many extended family members to say goodbye.
Bonnie was born in Winnipeg and spent her childhood living in both Winnipeg and Regina. She graduated from Tec-Voc High School. She met her husband John while working at the airport in Regina, and after a whirlwind romance of about six months, they were married. They settled in Winnipeg and she poured her whole life into being a wife and a mother. John and Bonnie were married for 51 years before his passing in 2019.
Her grandchildren and granddogs were her biggest joy and she was so proud to call them her own. They enriched her life and brought her so much happiness.
She loved spending summers at Lakeside Trailer Park in Winnipeg Beach where she ruled the aggravation game board and soaked up the sun. Many hours were spent laughing, socializing and playing scrabble and cards.
She also loved reading, watching classic movies and anything about "The Royal Family". She is fondly remembered for her cooking and sewing skills, her fabulous parties, her infectious laugh and her genuine love for people. She will be remembered for how she raised both her own children and the neighbourhood children. There were endless pots of tea ready for friends and family.
Bonnie loved the Lord and gave of herself to openly share Him with people. Whether she was sitting and praying with you in the kitchen or she was volunteering with New Day Ministries, she gave easily and didn't ask for anything in return. She had a heart of gold and you couldn't have asked for a better wife, mom, nana, sister, auntie or friend to have in your corner.
The past few years in particular were not easy for Bonnie, but with the help and support of some special people, it eased those times and brought smiles to her life. We would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the "Sabine Ladies". Your unwavering friendship and support and your love for our mom, and for us, cannot be measured. As well, to the staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge, especially Khris, Vere and the 4th floor staff, your care and kindness for our mom over the past seven and one half years has been such a comfort for our family.
A celebration of Bonnie's life will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m., and the service at 10:00 a.m., with a reception to follow. There will be an interval during the service for anyone who wishes to say a few words.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bonnie's name to Golden West Centennial Lodge or Veteran's Affairs Canada.

I am going to miss you dearly. It is not the same going to work and not having you there to care for and talk with you. You were a great person to care for on a daily basis and you made me laugh. I will keep you close to my heart. May your soul rest in eternal peace.. - Posted by: Vere (Caregiver) on: May 29, 2022

Such a cute picture of a darling woman. I wish I had gotten to play scrabble with her, it would have been quite the match, probably leading to a scrabble marathon. I can only aspire to be half as loved as this amazing woman was. May she rest in power. - Posted by: shelley ireland (friend) on: Apr 16, 2022
