HALAMANDARIS: Pandelis Halamandaris passed away at the Wawanesa Health Centre on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at the age of 90 years. He was predeceased by his wife Helga in 2016. He is survived by his sons Yorgo and Peter and Peter's children Carter and Reese. Pandelis, of Greek decent, was born in Suez, Egypt in 1932. After receiving his undergraduate degree at the American University at Cairo, he received his master's and Ph.D at Indiana University. In 1970 his family moved to Winnipeg for a short time and then to Brandon where he became a faculty member at Brandon University. In addition to teaching in the education faculty, he initiated a project creating post secondary education in teacher training for First Nations students. Subsequently, he initiated similar projects in the African nations of Swaziland and Malawi. He retired in 1999. In 2001 Brandon University bestowed upon him the title of Professor Emeritus. In 2006 he accepted an Honorary Doctorate degree from the University of Swaziland. The National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada bestowed upon him the medal for distinguished services provided to the Canadian Society. He was very much involved in the Greek community before and after his retirement. A Funeral Service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev. Fr. Nikolaos Tambakis officiating.
