JOSEPH RAYMOND (RAY) VACHON
August 23, 1941 - April 15, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ray Vachon. Our beloved father, father-in-law, Pépère and dear friend passed away on April 15, 2022, at the St. Boniface Hospital, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Left to mourn are his sons, Geoff (Leeanne) and Greg (Tracy). He also leaves his dearest grandchildren, Chantal, Travis, Amber, Ashlee, and Brooke; his sister Claudette (Don), and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Helen, both parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Ray grew up in Northern Ontario and cherished his time there. He shared many stories about his childhood spent outdoors with his siblings, and the fond memories he had about where he was raised.
He was a devoted husband, father, and Pépère, who would do anything for his family. People everywhere enjoyed his cheerful personality and sense of humour. We will remember the many stories he had about his trip to South America with his lifelong army friends, or long road trips across Canada. He had many passions, including travelling, gardening, his dogs, and the Montréal Canadiens. In fact, the only thing he loved more than the Canadiens, was his family.
Ray was always a great storyteller. Everyone enjoyed hearing about his time in the army as a young man, and his days of being a Milk Man. Dad was always a hard worker and had a career at CNR for many years. After retirement, he enjoyed spending as much time as possible in his yard gardening. He enjoyed the simple things, like taking his many dachshunds to Birds Hill Park for walks, family BBQs, and fishing and kayaking with his sons. Dad was very generous in this chapter of his life, he babysat and chauffeured all his grandchildren, and they have fond memories of eating ice cream sandwiches on his deck, picking apples from his tree, him watching them at sports and dance recitals, and taking them to Tinkertown.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of his life will include only a small gathering of immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, donations are graciously accepted in Ray's memory to the CNIB of Manitoba.
We love you and you will forever be missed.
