October 16, 1932 - April 26, 2022
Chiyoko (Chiyo) Tamoto passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 89.
Chiyoko was born and raised in Osaka, Japan. It was there she met and married her beloved husband Akira before moving to Winnipeg, Manitoba to raise their family. Chiyoko is survived by her children, Sam (Terry), Jackie, and Glen (Agnes); her grandchildren, Connie (Paul), Jessica (Wes), Crystal (Joe), David, Ashley (Dirk), and Nicole (Ben); and her great-grandchildren, Kyra, Philippe, Quintin, Chloe, Juniper, Violet, and Holden. She was predeceased by her husband Akira in 2012, and her daughter Aileen in 2009.
Chiyoko was gifted in the arts and enjoyed sharing her paper creations with friends and family. She was also a talented singer who loved karaoke and performed at Folklorama's Japanese pavilion in her younger years.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of Seven Oaks Hospital for their kindness and care.
At Chiyoko's request, there will be no formal service.

It's decades since I saw Mrs. Tamoto but I think of her every time I use chopsticks as she taught me some of the secrets to polite and successful use.
