WILLIAM (BILL) RIEGE
October 10, 1940 - May 2, 2022
Bill, our husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend, passed away at home with his family by his side, on May 2, 2022 at the age of 81. His journey on earth has ended and he leaves his legacy of love, values and character for his family to embrace.
Bill was born to Henrietta and Ruben Riege on October 10, 1940 and raised on a farm in Meadows, Manitoba. Bill and Louise met young - Louise was born one day earlier at the same hospital. They met again at Rosser High School, began dating while Louise was in nursing school, and were married on November 10, 1962. Bill and Louise were the love of each other's lives and inseparable during their marriage.
Bill is survived by Louise, his cherished wife of 59 years; three children, Jim (Theresa), Dave (Patti), Donna Zimmerman (Brian); eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Kyle, Ian (Bri), Scott (Hazel), Breanne (Chandler), Daniel (Cammie), Logan (Amanda, great-grandchildren Austin and Eli), Travis (Morgan), Jenna (Hayden); and siblings, Henry (Betty), Marian (Ron) and Linda. He was predeceased by his infant son, John William, his brother Gus, and his parents.
Bill's good nature, character and work ethic impacted those he worked with at Butler Buildings, Swift, Gainers and Whitecap Frozen Foods. He retired on October 10, 1998. His family was everything to him. He enjoyed camping and supporting his children's activities. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, sharing these pastimes with his family in his younger years and sharing his stories as a member of the Seven Oaks Game and Fish Association for more than 50 years. He found joy in gardening and loved his greenhouse where he could grow award-worthy tomato plants that he generously shared with family, friends and neighbours. He and Louise spent many winters taking care of snowy driveways for neighbours along with a yearly winter break to warm places, most often Mazatlán. Bill had a wonderful sense of humour and warm personality, bringing joy to his family and friends. A kind, generous, and selfless spirit, Bill was recognized for over 150 Red Cross blood donations. Bill worked hard and enjoyed life's simple pleasures.
The family extends their appreciation for the kindness, care and support of Dr. Kyeremateng and the E4 Family Medicine staff at St. Boniface Hospital.

We send our deepest condolences to Louise and her family . I'm so use to looking out the kitchen window that faces Bill and Louise’s backyard and seeing Bill's smiling face as Louise and Bill greet the passers by with a friendly conversation that puts a smile on anyone’s face 😊 It’s a memory I’ll never forget. Bill and Louise have always been the couple who protected and kept watch over the bay and they were always the go to people if you ever needed a hand or advice. Bill was a friend to all who were lucky enough to know him. He will be so sadly missed by all. Rest In Peace now Bill, God bless - Posted by: Carlos and tammy Costa (Neighbours/friend ) on: May 11, 2022

Louise, Jim, Dave and Donna - I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I am flooded with wonderful memories of our childhood on the Bay. We were blessed to have such a great community and your Dad (Bill) was at the heart of it for the last 50+ years. I will always see him in the living room window and he will always be watching over the neighborhood, albeit now spiritually. I am so thankful for the care and support Louise and Bill showed my parents for so many years and I treasure you in my heart. I am sending all my love and strength and you celebrate "Bill" and offer my deepest condolences. Lucinda McMaster xox - Posted by: Lucinda (McMaster) on: May 11, 2022
