SHIRLEY ANNE BROWN
(nee MARLATT)
Shirley Brown passed away peacefully at the Whitemouth Personal Care Home May 1, 2022.
Shirley was born on January 19, 1935 and grew up in the Rathwell area of Manitoba. As a young woman, she moved to Winnipeg, had many adventures (some involving hitchhiking!) and worked at Brewery Products. Shirley married Herbert Brown in 1955. They raised a family of four children in St Vital and lived there until retiring to Pinawa, MB in 1996. She was a valued employee at St. Amant Centre for a number of years.
Shirley is mourned by Herb, her loving husband of 67 years; her children and their partners, Mike and Barb; Cary; Ron and Angela; and Greg; her grandchildren, Lindsay, Curtis, Aaron, Erica, Samantha, Jordan and Sydney and their partners; her great-grandchildren, the "little guys" Porter and Miller; Margaret Mitchell (sister); John (brother) and Gwen Marlatt; her loving niece Myrna Mitchell and special friends, Bonnie Omand and Cathy Cornwell.
Shirley was active for her whole life in her community and church, Girl Guides, UCW, fundraising and friendly visiting. Shirley is remembered by her friends as a good listener and a thoughtful and genuinely kind person. Shirley enjoyed travel. She and Herb visited across Europe, Mexico, Cuba, coast to coast in Canada and explored Hawaii many times. Shirley loved her garden, bird watching, sunsets at the cottage on Karklin Creek, and sunrises in Hawaii. She was a great cook (but would not share her coleslaw recipe no matter what!), liked arts and crafts with the kids and collected poetry and pictures that fostered an open heart. And, most of all, she loved her family, teaching us about hard work, putting others first and the importance of giving. Shirley built countless memories for us and we are so fortunate to have these to revisit, keeping her in our hearts forever.
We would like to thank the special people from Homecare and the Whitemouth Personal Care Home for all the kindness you showed Shirley, it is deeply appreciated. There will be no funeral. The family is having a small private gathering.
Mom loved flowers but would prefer, if people wish to express their sympathy, donations to her favorite charities - Siloam Mission, Agape Table, Winnipeg Humane Society.
