Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Our sincere sympathy to Eric’s family. We knew Dutchy as part of the Meadows Golf Course Crew. He was a giant man with a giant heart! It was a privilege to have known him. Peter and Diane Ewert - Posted by: Diane Ewert (Friend) on: Jun 08, 2022

  • Such a sad ending for such a vibrant man! Eric was both loud and excitable, difficult and easy to be with. He will always be remembered as a truly charitable friend willing to help no matter the task. His passing due to this cancer is so undeserving. When Eric arrived in Winnipeg he became friends with several families in the Dutch community. The Bossman and the Hamerling. Eric visited my home weekly to play a game of "Dutch Billiards" with my father for decades. A true friend willing to give the shirt off his back to help and assist someone. He continued to stay in touch and visit my parents after they moved to Victoria. Eric retired from Government Services/ Medical supplies after twenty plus years. He was a recognizable character with his tall build and distinctive voice and laughter. After his retirement he travelled back to his home and family in the Netherlands. He was an avid soccer fan supporting the "Orange" and later in life he discovered golf. Eric and his wife Sharon, had two fine boys that they were so proud of Eric Jr. and Nicolas. Family dynamics aren't always too easy for passionate vibrant individuals. Eric always kept an eye on his boys. In his retired years Eric developed a love for golf. He played courses around the province and out in Western Canada. He worked as a part time groundskeeper to fill in off golf hours. Thank you Eric for your friendship and your genuine concern. You were a good man! I will truly miss his presence and his bravado! - Posted by: Ron Hamerling (Friend) on: Jun 04, 2022

  • Our deepest condolences to to the family. We have known Eric for many years. Milt worked with Eric in the former Home Care equipment branch. He was a shining light in our life and would very often, in his wanderings, stop by to chat and have a coffee. He will be deeply missed. May God give you all strength as you grieve. - Posted by: Rae and Milt Jones (Long time friends) on: Jun 04, 2022
