BERNICE FANNING

With family at her side, on May 26, 2022, Bernice died at the age of 97, in Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg.
She was born August 10, 1924, in Grandview, MB, to Elsie and Fleming Parrott, the youngest of five children and the only daughter. After early education in Grandview, she finished her Grade 12 sciences in Roblin, MB. Bernice chose nursing at the Misericordia Hospital. Recruited by Dauphin General Hospital, she met and married her husband, and where her first two daughters were born. The young family moved to Winnipeg, where her second two daughters were born, completing the family. With the children in school, Bernice returned to work, at St Boniface Hospital, Labour and Delivery department. Her 37 years in that capacity, helping usher in new life, gave her tremendous pleasure.
Travel, jewelry, rocks, minerals, and world politics were Bernice's hobbies.
Bernice was predeceased by both parents; and four older brothers, Donald, Victor, Colin, and David. She is survived by four daughters, Michelle Campbell Isaac (Jeff), Katherine Campbell Morley (Andrew), Shaunalee Campbell, Colleen Campbell Mountjoy; and five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In keeping with Bernice's passion for education and nursing, the family respectfully request donations to be directed to the "Bernice Parrott Nursing Bursary" at Red River College. Donation options are: Online Home: Donate at (RRC.ca) Phone: 204 619-0139. Cheque: Red River College Polytechnic, C306-2055 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada R3H 0J9 (cheque made out to award name of Bernice Parrott in the comment section of the cheque).

  • I first met Bernice when I became director of the University Womens' Club Handbell Choir in 1999. She was a most faithful handbell ringer, practising diligently every week at home so she was always ready at the next rehearsal. We developed a close personal friendship over the years and I found her philosophy of life so engaging. We celebrated her birthdays and had wonderful conversations over the phone. I will truly miss her very caring, wonderful personality and dear friendship. Deepest condolences to her four daughters and extended family members. May the many cherished memories of your dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother help sustain you in the future. • I met Bernice at the Victoria Hospital as my roommate. Although we knew she was at the end of her life, we had many in depth discussions. I am so grateful of that time together! What a strong and determined woman! Knowing Bernice, even for a few days, was a gift for which I am very grateful! - Posted by: Kathy McKibbin (Friend) on: Jun 04, 2022
