SHIRLEY JOAN SWISTUN

Shirley Joan Swistun, age 87, of Winnipeg, MB, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2022.
She was born on September 30, 1935 in Springfield, MB, the first-born daughter of William and Anne Stasynec. In 1957 she married Henry, her husband of 65 years. They had one son, David in 1960. Shirley did several jobs in her life, starting with a career at Free Press, then Great-West Life, Calvin Dental, and ending at the family business, Birds Hill Sand & Gravel. During her retirement she hosted gambling junkets for Mr. Canada to Las Vegas and Mesquite, NV. As well, she spent countless hours helping her son and daughter-in-law in their business, Duck Bay Lodge. Shirley and Henry had a great passion for travel, enjoying a number of trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Europe and Caribbean cruises. Shirley was also a life-long sports fan, in particular baseball, curling and golf. Sadly her health declined, and she went into personal care at Actionmarguerite in 2020.
We'd like to give a special thanks to Shirley's caregivers and nurses on Ward 4A in her final days; you are truly a blessing.
Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her husband Henry; son David (Sheree); sister Marg (Randy); granddaughter Cheryl (Robert); grandson Paul (Crystal); five great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., with interment in Next Ukrainian National Cemetery.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Your mom and dad ...so many memories from growing up together. Last I saw your mom we were digging out trees we bought from her I was about 9 months pregnant and she was just the sweetest lady. Sorry David and family for your loss and I hope all the good memories bring you some comfort. Good people raise wonderful sons.
