ANTONIO GIUSEPPE GUZZO
July 21, 1926 – July 3, 2022
With deep sorrow and much love, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, Antonio Guzzo. He passed away on July 3, 2022, at Poseidon Care Centre at age 95.
Antonio will be lovingly remembered, and left to cherish by his loving and devoted wife of almost 76 years, Filomena (Anania); his six children: daughter Carol (Mario) Pallone, son Tom (Diane) Guzzo, daughters, Stella (Gabriele) De Dominicis, Perri (Dave) Sloan, Toni (Joe) Donvito and Lucy (Pedro) Chagas, 17 grandchildren, Greg (Gena) Pallone, Rose (Leo) Umphrey, Tony (Venessa) Pallone, Joelle Guzzo, Sheri (Sean) Billington, Ryan (Sara) Guzzo, Rick (Shayne) De Dominicis, Daniel (Sherri) De Dominicis, Claudio (Jamie) De Dominicis, Mike (Jen) Sloan, Lucy Sloan (John), Cynthia (Dale) Weevers, Paul Donvito (Megan), Victoria Chagas (Duncan), Julia Chagas, Marco Chagas, and Matteo Chagas, 27 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, sister Felicia Mancusi of Italy, sister-in-law Antonietta Guzzo of New Kensington, PA, and many nephews and nieces. Antonio was predeceased by his sister Maria Cantafio of Winnipeg and brother Pepino Guzzo of New Kensington, PA.
Antonio was born in Miglierina, Catanzaro, Italy on July 21, 1926 to Tommaso and Carolina Guzzi (Guzzo). While in Miglierina, Antonio endured training and worked as a carpenter. He later married his childhood friend and the love of his life, Filomena Anania. In 1954, following the birth of their three children and the soon arrival of their fourth child, Antonio made a brave and necessary transition to Winnipeg, Canada. Antonio's commitment, courage, and guiding principles led him on his journey to establish a more promising life for his family. After much sacrifice and hard work, Antonio proudly welcomed his family of five to Winnipeg, Canada in 1959. Shortly after their reunion and settling into their new life, they welcomed two more children, completing their family of eight.
Antonio's commitment allowed him to learn English quickly, which led to his promotion as a foreman in the clothing and textile industry, while often working additional management jobs. He proudly retired in 1987 from Rice Sportswear.
Antonio's wife and family were the center of his life. He was always willing to provide guidance and opinion based on his unwavering principles. He firmly believed in fairness, honesty, and discipline. Antonio was known for his passionate demeanour and constantly engaged in debates on political and social issues.
Antonio will forever be in our hearts, leaving his legacy within all of us. We all wish we could accomplish what he did within his lifetime. He was a hero to us all. We love you, Pa!
A very special "Thank You" to Poseidon Care Centre staff for their commitment and care they provided to our Papa.
