DRINDA-LEE WOOD
(nee WILLIE)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Drinda-Lee Wood who passed away, peacefully, on July 2, 2022 at the age of 73.
She is survived by her husband Calvin Murray; son Ian Wood; stepson Derek Murray (Colleen Lee); and grandsons, Evan and Chris Murray.
Drinda is predeceased by her mother and father, as well as, brother Darryl.
Drinda was a caring wife, daughter, mother, sister, and friend. Her long battle with cancer showed unwavering courage and love of life. She faced life's challenges with a big smile and her own unique sense of humour. Drinda was an inspiration to all that met her.
Drinda was born to Frank and Marion Willie on June 1, 1949. She went to Glenlawn Collegiate for high school and upon graduating attended NAIT to become a dental technician. After working many years in dentistry, she returned to school (Red River College) to become a registered nurse. A natural born caregiver, Drinda worked as a palliative care nurse until retirement. She was a tireless supporter of the nursing profession and the search for a cure to cancer. She advocated healthy living and loved making health shakes and "special concoctions" for meat and potatoes loving Cal, for over 35 years.
Drinda loved people. She had an engaging personality and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Within a few minutes of meeting her you felt like you had a friend for life.
Her family would like to thank her palliative care team, and the doctors, nurses and staff of Victoria General Hospital and Riverview Health Centre who made her last days comfortable.
A private funeral service will be held to honour Drinda.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to CancerCare Manitoba on her behalf.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • I met Drinda at Girl Guide camp in the 1960's. She was so full of fun and with her smile and Donald Duck talk was a favorite of all the campers. We later connected at Glenlawn Collegiate and became great friends. She was always full of great ideas, enthusiasm and ready for an adventure. Rest in Peace - Posted by: Lenore White (friend) on: Jul 12, 2022

  • Drinda - you fought a long, hard battle. I have many fond memories of you that I will treasure including watching you dance at the Playhouse Theatre, swimming at Sherbrook Pool and having conversations in Donald Duck!! Rest In Peace cousin! Condolences to Cal and Ferd. - Posted by: Deborah Tod (cousin) on: Jul 11, 2022

  • Drinda P, as Brent always called her. What a wonderful person who was so helpful when Brent was ill. I could always count on her for great advice and someone to talk with. Whenever I came back to Winnipeg I was sure to share a tea and get some wonderful healthy recipes. Cal, Ferd, thinking of you both at this very sad time. Was very fortunate to have cousin Drinda in my life. - Posted by: Carolyn Graham (Friend) on: Jul 09, 2022

  • Drinda was Funny, always a smile or good word no matter what was happening, made you feel good despite her own problems. Missed seeing her but she will always be remembered with a smile 🫰🙋‍♀️🙏😁 - Posted by: Dianne Kammerlock (Cousin) on: Jul 09, 2022

  • I met and traveled with Drinda for several years on cruises. We were hosting these trips and I was always her Mama Duckie as she used to call me. She signed all her facebook notes and emails with a couple "quack quacks". She loved her family, her spa treatments on cruises and even those limited excursions we could convince her to take. My husband and I even worked extra hard to get her to come swim with the dolphins and manatee's in Mexico and the whales in Hawaii. She was a kind, loving, funny, compassionate lady and I always enjoyed our trips together. Sending everyone lots of love and light in these dark days. She will continue to take of everyone from her angel spot not instead of just here on Earth. Take Care of each other. - Posted by: Chassity McIntyre (Friend) on: Jul 09, 2022

  • Drinda was involved in syncronized swimming at Sherbrook pool in the 60's and she could make a fabulous home-made pizza from scratch. She had a wonderful smile and a great laugh. - Posted by: brian klym (friend) on: Jul 09, 2022
