MICHAEL ALLAN SWEENEY
January 23, 1941 – July 4, 2022

Michael was predeceased by his parents and his brother Ed. He is survived by his sister Kitty Harder and his nephews, Jim Gauthier and Rick Gauthier.
Michael was spiritual, loveable, appreciative and grateful.
Michael loved singing and playing his beloved harmonica while on holidays in the Dominican Republic, as the hotel staff chanted "Papa! Papa!" to his proud, beaming smile. Michael liked sports and he loved the Winnipeg Blue Bombers who won the clincher 23-22 game against the Toronto Argonauts on July 4; a tribute to Michael. Michael bicycled all over, even out to Portage la Prairie. Many hours were spent watching vintage movies. Michael was a loyal supporter of his friends at the Legions. He attended Mass at St. Bernadette Parish and always looked forward to offering Peace, preferably with a firm hug and kiss on the cheek.
In 2012, after a long hospital stay at St. Boniface General Hospital recuperating from a bicycle accident on ice, our prayers were answered when Michael moved in with his new family. Terrie, her dog Zeus and two cats, Muffy and Jazzy were just what Michael could ever wish for. A very strong bond was formed with Terrie, his incredible, devoted caregiver. They shopped, visited, enjoyed program and outings to South Beach Casino among many other activities. Terrie even fulfilled his wish to attend a Blue Jays game in Toronto.
Michael spent the last four months at hospital and at Middlechurch Personal Care Home.
Michael will be remembered as a unique, God sent individual. Michael will be sadly missed, but joyfully remembered by Terrie, her family, and all of his friends.

  • We are saddened to read of Mike's passing. We first met Mike back in early 2000's when we visited his brother Ed. Mike would join us when we took Ed out for a meal. Mike and I had that special bond, our birthdays were the same Jan 23rd., so when it came to birthday cards, we never forgot Mike's. We are glad to have known both Mike and Ed, more so to have called our them dear friends. Until next we meet R I P Mike. Our condolences to your family - Posted by: Tony & Joanne Meaning (Family Friend) on: Jul 13, 2022
