MARY ELIZABETH (BETTY) BLICK
(nee HUGHES)

Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Blick passed away in Edmonton on May 12, 2022, just shy of her 103rd birthday.
Betty was born in Edmonton on July 17, 1919. In 1940, she met RCAF Flying Officer John Oliver (Jack) Blick and in 1943 they were married. At the end of the Second World War in 1945, they moved to Winnipeg and created radio station CJOB. Over the next several years, they raised four children, twin boys and two girls. Betty, Jack and the kids enjoyed many summers at West Hawk Lake. During her time in Winnipeg, she was President of the Women's Canadian Club and President of the Volunteer Bureau. Betty also won several awards as a member of the Embroiderers' Guild.
In 1993, Betty moved to Calgary to be near her twin sons. In 2014, she moved to a care home in Edmonton. Betty was predeceased by her son Brian (2016); her husband Jack (1981) and her parents, Robert (1952) and Elizabeth (1972). She leaves behind her eldest son Barry (Cynthia), Cochrane, Alberta; her daughter Barbara, New York City; granddaughter Lauren (Jarrel); great-grandsons, Winston and George, Arlington, VA; granddaughter Jane (Ben), great-granddaughter Theadora, Brooklyn, NY; daughter Diane, grandson Stuart (Daniela), great-grandsons, Oliver and Nicolas all of Port Coquitlam, BC and daughter-in-law Sylvia, Stettler, Alberta.
Words cannot express the family's gratitude for the care and consideration of the staff at AgeCare Miller Crossing in Edmonton. Thank you all so much.
Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held in Winnipeg this summer.
