It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.
She leaves to mourn her children, Philis (Tony), Cathy (Myles), Rose (Brent), Joe (Rosemary); her grandchildren, Marie (Steve), Felicia (Steven), Brianna (Josh), Mario (Ashley), Brett, Sophia (Damian), Antonio and Giuliana; great- grandchildren, Alessio and Mykenna; only surviving sibling Vittoria Aiello; sisters-in-law, Maria Mauro and Wilma Anania, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins throughout Canada, USA and Italy.
Maria was predeceased by her loving husband Antonio Cappellano; parents, Augustino Mauro and Rosa Fiorentino; in-laws, Angelo Guzzi and Felicia Cappellano; grandson David Cappellano; brothers, Sam Mauro and Frank Mauro; sister Caterina Anania; sister-in-law Caterina Mauro; brothers-in-law, Giuseppe Aiello and Angelo Anania.
Maria was born in Amato, Italy and immigrated to Canada in her early 20s, marrying her husband, Antonio. Early years in Canada she worked as a seamstress at a factory, and later at her home. In time, she and Antonio were able to open Tony's Grocery. She was bright and hard working, opening her doors to family and neighbours. Her husband, an entrepreneur, paved a path for their family that she supported, cared for and nurtured. Her dedication and passion for her family was unwavering. To her family, her home was the place all were welcomed. She demonstrated a zest for life, generosity and love. She will be deeply missed, close to our hearts and forever with us.
The family would like to thank our family and friends for the care and support over the past few weeks. Your meals, visits and thoughtfulness warmed our hearts during our time of need. We would also like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital and Executive Nursing for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Maria to Parkinson Canada, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or a charity of choice.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., with Reverend Father Sam Argenziano celebrant. Viewing / condolences will commence at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will be held at Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley St.
