Heinz (Opa) peacefully passed away, with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his loving wife Erna of 58 years and his brother Gerhard.
Heinz will be lovingly remembered by sister-in-law Johanna (Herb Makowe), his children, Edith (Mike Kaminski), Gerhardt, Edwin and Heidi (Wilson Phillips), his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Heinz was born in Germany and immigrated to Canada when he was 16. He eventually met his "darling" wife Erna and had four children. Heinz took great pride in his work as a professional painter until his retirement. Heinz enjoyed spending time with his family, celebrations and get togethers. Heinz was a proud Opa who cherished watching his grandchildren growing into young adults. Heinz and Erna had many friends at McClure Place where they spent their final years. Heinz enjoyed helping in the kitchen, calling bingo and carpet bowling with his friends who referred to him as a sweetheart.
The family is grateful for the care and compassion of the palliative care team and for the support of staff at Riverview Health Centre.
Services will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, 560 Arlington Street, Friday, August 26 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Palliative Manitoba or a charity of your choice.
