HELENA LORRAINE HJARTARSON
November 2, 1918 August 6, 2022
Lorraine was born in Selkirk, Manitoba on November 2, 1918, the youngest child of Theodore and Helena Couture.
Lorraine was predeceased by her beloved husband Eric, sister Catherine (Bill) Skehar, brother Lawrence (Doris) Couture and brother Donovan Couture.
Mother taught at the School for the Deaf on Wellington Avenue and later on Shaftesbury Boulevard in Winnipeg for many years and retired in 1977.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed summers at her Muckle Creek cottage. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle aficionado, and enjoyed quilting and knitting sweaters for her grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed by her son Fred, daughter Joan (Alan) and her grandchildren, Alana (Luke), Kevin (Caitlin) and great-grandson Everett.
The family wants to thank the nursing staff of The Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre for their kind and compassionate care during the last months of our mother's life. Words cannot express our true gratitude to your centre. Thank you so much.
In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held.
Mom was always concerned about the welfare of our four legged friends. If you wish to honour her memory, please consider a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
Dear Grandma Lorraine,
I'll always treasure my childhood summers at the cottage. A few special memories of mine are your meals made with freshly picked vegetables from Donovan's garden, crabapple jelly, yummy vinarterta and making wildflower bouquets. We exchanged so many books and letters over the years. I'm going to miss coming by for tea and I'm so happy you got to meet Everett. Forever in our hearts.
Love, Alana, Luke and Everett
