IAN (GORD) STEWART
Suddenly on July 25, 2022, Ian Gordon Stewart, beloved husband of Joan, father of Mike (Cheryl) and Heather (Chuck), Grandpa to Ethan and Hayden, Brother to Catriona (Gerry), Shona and Moira, and Uncle to Paul (Claire) and Ellen Chevalier. Gord's extended family and many friends will miss him forever.
Gord and his family moved to Canada in October 1953. They settled in Sylvan Lake, then the Crow's Nest Pass, and finally in Edmonton, all in Alberta. Gord and Joan met in Ottawa and were married in Edmonton in 1972. They also lived in Calgary and then in Winnipeg for over 35 years.
For most of his career, in both Calgary and Winnipeg, Gord worked for the Federal Government, in Citizenship in Calgary and in Immigration in Winnipeg. While in Winnipeg he had two month assignments in each of India and Pakistan. At the end of his career he had a two year assignment in London, England. This enabled him to take weekend bus tours to many different places in Europe.
"Scouter Gord" was very active in the Scouting movement, holding various volunteer positions. He attended several Canadian Scout Jamborees, and World Jamborees in Holland, Thailand, Chile and London, England.
From the time he came to Winnipeg in 1985, Gord served as a weekend volunteer at the Western Canadian Aviation Museum (now the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada).
The funeral will be held at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, we know Gord would appreciate a donation to the Aviation Museum in his name (2088 Wellington Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3H 1C1).
