GEORGE HILDEBRAND
April 21, 1925 - September 11, 2022
George Hildebrand, 97, died on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at Donwood Manor in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with his sister Bettie at his side.
Born on April 21, 1925, in Ekaterinoslav, Ukraine, George arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on January 1, 1927, with his parents, Daniel and Anna (Dyck), and four siblings. He spent his childhood on the prairies near Niverville, Manitoba, where the family grew to 12 children.
At 22, George embraced the Christian faith. Two years later, in 1950, he married Anne Schellenberg, the daughter of neighbouring farmers, and together they raised five children. George was a farmer at heart, but in 1967, the family moved to Niverville, where he and Anne, together with their partners, successfully grew two agricultural businesses, Niverville Farms and Puratone.
George spent his last four decades living in Birds Hill and Winnipeg. During those years, he worked in home care, volunteered at Union Gospel Mission, indulged his love of reading, and travelled widely with Anne.
George was predeceased by his wife, Anne, his son Gary and six siblings.
He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, keen and curious mind, and love for Nature by all who knew him, especially his sons, Don (Judy), Dale (Marlene), and Ray (Danielle); daughter Joyce; daughter-in-law Bernice; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was dearly loved and admired, and we will cherish his memory.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19, 2022 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg, with viewing on Sunday, September 18, 2022 from 7p.m. 9:00 p.m at Friends. The service will be livestreamed at https://fweb.tv/85773

What wonderful memories I have of family gatherings with Uncle George and Aunt Anne and all the Schellenbergs. Uncle George was always such a gentle and caring man, with a strong faith and a sincere interest in others. My condolences to my cousins Don, Dale, Ray, Joyce and Bernice and families. I pray for you in your grief, but also anticipate the great joy we’ll experience with the reunions of heaven. - Garth - Posted by: Garth Klassen (Nephew) on: Sep 22, 2022
