BERNICE PREFONTAINE
(nee SEMENIUK)
With great sorrow, we announce the passing of Bernice Patricia Prefontaine (nee Semeniuk) on September 9, 2022, at the age of 78.
Bernice will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 59 years, Norman; her children, Debbie (Lorne), Cathy (Joe), Neil (Debra); her grandchildren, Jessica (Matt), Meagan (Jeff), Tyler, James (Kyle), and Kaitlyn; and her great-grandchildren, Grace and Claire. She will also be remembered by her sister Elizabeth (Lloyd), her sisters-in-law, Yvonne, Louise (Jerry) and Gisele, brother-in-law John and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Katie, father-in-law Eugene and mother-in-law Augustine, sister Julie, brother David, sister-in-law Joan and brother-in-law Alex.
Bernice was born in Winnipeg on January 10, 1944. Her family lived in a number of places in Manitoba before settling on Johnson Avenue in Elmwood. Bernice met Norman while in high school and they were married in 1963. They raised their three children in East Kildonan where they lived for 56 years. Bernice worked in the insurance industry for most of her working life, working her way from an administrative position to a junior underwriter and retired from General Accident in 1999.
Bernice loved her family and was proud of their accomplishments. She was always happy to attend family events and celebrate all of their milestones. Bernice loved a good joke and was joking, pulling pranks and laughing right up until the end. We will all miss her sense of humour. Bernice also enjoyed her bingo games, playing in East Kildonan and at the cottage with family and her bingo buddies. She continued to enjoy her games and was always asking if it was "bingo day" today. Her other passions in life included sewing, crocheting and crafts and over the years she created many beautiful things. Bernice was an outdoor person. She loved gardening and was always on the hunt for new kinds of plants and flowers to grow. The family spent numerous weekends over the years camping and fishing with family and friends. In retirement, Norman and Bernice spent their summers at their trailer at Wendigo Trailer Park, enjoying their time with the good friends they made there.
The family would like to thank the wonderful care that the home care workers provided Bernice while she was at home and her new friend Aline for all of the visits.
In keeping with Bernice's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bernice's life will take place at a later date.
If family and friends so desire, donations can be made in Bernice's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Deepest Condolences to Norm & family. I met Bernice in 2973 when I was hired as bookkeeper at Morgan Nicholson Insce. Bernice made me very comfortable in new job. We worked together until company went bankrupt and went separate ways but always crossed paths in walkway. Bernice & I reconnected when General Accident merged with Prudential. Bernice always talked highly about her family and grandchildren. When General accident took a different route in 1999 we laughed and cried at same time. We both joked we could be Walmart greeters. It has been an honour to know Bernice. Heaven has gained another Angel and she will be watching her family until you meet again. RIP Bernice you are free from pain. Sorry for your loss. Our parents Pete & Mary Manitowich would visit you & your family on Johnson Ave. to play cards while us kids (sister Donna Brothers Doug & Ron) would try to stay out of trouble. I was at Julie's funeral and chatted with Bernice - Posted by: Susan Dokken (cousin) on: Sep 21, 2022
