GEORGE HOLUBITSKY
May 12, 1937 - September 19, 2022

George passed away on September 19, 2022, after a full life shared with the love of his life, Sally and their devoted children, Todd (Elaine) and Marcie (Doug). George will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Savannah (Caleb), Jordi and Troy, as well as his great- grandchildren, Kelton, Marley Bleu and Hendrix. George was predeceased by his parents, Dan and Lucille Holubitsky and grandson Jason Holubitsky.
George was born and raised in Oakburn, Manitoba where he attended grade school and then St. Paul's High School and Kelvin High School in Winnipeg. Following high school, George graduated from the St. Boniface School of Radiography. He was then employed by Getty Oil. Later, with his business partner, they purchased Martel Stewart Ltd. which was operated successfully for multiple years. In the latter of his career, the company was sold to Jim Pattison Sign Group where he was employed until his retirement at 72 years of age.
Dad was always one to volunteer his time and energy to coach many years of amateur sport in Woodhaven. He started out as a temporary coach of the Woodhaven girl's softball team and inherited the team for four more years. To this day, the girls still call him "Coach". George also enjoyed many years of playing ball for the senior men's Woodhaven Tics and curled at the Granite Curling Club.
He had a penchant for sports cars from his '57 Dodge Convertible to his Corvettes. He was a life long Blue Bomber and Jets fan and could cite any players history and stats.
George and Sally were blessed with 61 years of marriage and were the epitome of best friends. They were fortunate to travel many years together with their favourite being countless cruises to many locations abroad. George was a consummate friend to all and readily had a joke for everybody.

Dad, we wanted to sincerely thank you for your love, support and brilliant advice throughout the years. You were humble, grounded and rich in love. God Bless and rest easy. You truly were "A Man for Others".

We would like to extend thanks to the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Services as well as the emergency staff at the Grace General Hospital for their exceptional care provided for Dad.
Flowers are gratefully declined; however, donations can be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul The Apostle Church, 2400 Portage Avenue with reception immediately following in the church hall.

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • My sincerest sympathies go out to you Sally, and to Todd and Marcie and your extended families. This is a such huge loss. There are no words to express my feelings at this time. I have such wonderful memories of our times together. Hawaii, Florida, Gimli and that day sail on the Joint Venture that led to a moonlight sail home to northern harbour. How I miss those days. George was such a good man. I’m glad to have known him and I’m proud to call him a friend. I’m sure he and Marvin are together somewhere telling jokes and causing trouble! • My condolences to George's family. We were friends many years ago during our younger days, Fraternity (SIG's) brothers and enjoyed many good times together. Any time that I would run into Georg in later years we would catch up on what was happening in our lives. A good man. Harley Hansen - Posted by: harley hansen (friend) on: Sep 25, 2022

  • The world has lost a shining light and I've lost a man I was proud to call friend. Although it has been several years since we've seen each other, during the likely 50 years we knew each other it would happen we'd not meet up for several years, but when we did we'd pick up as if it had just been yesterday --- in part due to George's remarkable memory of our last visit. George, his memory, his larger-than-life personality, his ability to engage one-on-one always made me feel special and valued. In our business dealings George was honest, straight up and a joy to work with. He was always far more concerned about my end of the deal, finding product and pricing that worked for us, than what might be most profitable for him. Of course, that made him my go-to supplier. Several times, because he was someone it was easy to talk to, confide in, George gave me some great advice. My life is the richer for having known the self-described, "Polish Prince." You are indeed a Prince George and I am saddened knowing I'll not bump into you again --- at least on this plane of existence but look forward to doing so on the next. - Posted by: Sheldon Bowles (Friend and Business Associate ) on: Sep 24, 2022

  • My family was very fortunate to meet George just this August. We had the pleasure of having many wonderful conversations. His funny jokes, wonderful stories and friendly smile were a bright spot during a tough time. He spoke so fondly of his family. The last time I saw him he was very excited to tell me about his grandson’s birthday and how proud he was of him. The Zaretski family sends our love to Sally, Marcie and family. - Posted by: Andrea Myers (Adeline Zaretski’s granddaughter ) on: Sep 23, 2022
