H. ROBERT (BOB) FAST
1957 - 2022
Bob Fast, 65, passed away unexpectedly at home on October 7, 2022.
He was born on September 3, 1957 to Harold and Anne (Schellenberg) Fast in Altona, MB. He grew up in Rosenfeld and at the age of 12 moved to Winkler. After high school Bob felt called to pursue a Christian college education and a more intimate relationship with God. He spent three years at Providence College (Winnipeg Bible College), where he met the love of his life, Dale Allison, while travelling and performing with the College Singers. In September 1979 Bob and Dale got married. Over the next six years Bob started work at the Bank of Montreal and their daughters, Errin and Heather, were born. His work with the bank took him first to Calgary, back to Winnipeg, up north to The Pas, and finally back to Winnipeg. In 2014 he took early retirement from the bank and went to work at Investor's Group. Bob had been eagerly anticipating his retirement in June of 2023.
Bob was a man of sincere faith who lived to serve and mentor all those around him. He was passionate about laying a firm foundation for organizations and leaders to flourish. Bob believed strongly in connecting with others and studying the scriptures in small groups. He sat on various boards including a term as moderator of the North American Baptist Conference. He leaves his work with the board of Pioneers Canada and Whyte Ridge Baptist Church unfinished.
Bob loved his family deeply and took delight in caring for them in practical ways. From the time he got married he cooked a big breakfast every Saturday for his wife, later his children, and eventually his grandchildren, too. He could be found in his beautiful yard on any given Saturday, puttering, gardening or giving yard tours to his granddaughters. He loved being outside, walking (regardless of the weather!), riding his bike, visiting with neighbours, and taking his granddaughters to the park.
While we deeply mourn his passing, we find comfort in knowing that he has fought the good fight. He has finished his race and is now in the presence of God.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Dale, his daughters, Errin (Kevin), Heather (Matt), and his six precious granddaughters, Allison, Annabelle, Alexandra, Brielle, Everly and Vivienne. He leaves behind his siblings, Shirley (John), Donna (Errol), David (Tannis), Roma (Al) and Patricia (Murray). He also leaves to mourn the Allison family, Robert and Kathryn, and their children, Brian (Leanne), Craig (Esther), Mark, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Harold and Anne, and his brother, Donald.
A memorial service has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to ministries Bob held dear; Pioneers Canada and Lake Nutimik Baptist Camp.

Bob was my cousin and best friend growing up- he was born only 4 days before me. We were with each other often visiting between our farm and his home in Rosenfeld, usually biking 2 miles to meet. He had a paper route I helped him with on Saturdays and always had popcorn curls and Coke when done. We continued to visit back and forth many times after his family moved to Winkler. Our paths crossed often and we got to know Dale and Bob as a wonderful couple and great family. We are so sorry for your loss Dale and family -Bob had many friends and he loved his family and grand children. He was a great leader and was a man of strong faith and loved his church community. We will all miss him dearly. Dear Dale, we are so sorry for your loss. We were in shock and disbelief when we heard the sad news. It was both a pleasure and a privilege being your neighbours. We will always treasure the kindness you expressed toward us when we moved across the street. We particularly treasure you taking us under your wing when we first joined Whyte Ridge Baptist Church. Bob was a blessing to everyone who knew him and loved him. His humble heart and gentle disposition was genuine. He will be greatly missed by his church family. He loved the Lord and served Him faithfully. Knowing he is in the presence of God experiencing His exceeding love and joy brings us all comfort. - Posted by: Bogdan and Emmie Dryjski (Friends) on: Oct 15, 2022

Barb and I send our condolences to Dale and the extended Fast family. My friendship with Bob goes back to WBC days. We both played on the college hockey team. He was a pretty fine center man. But even moreso, he was a very fine human being. Over the years my work would periodically take me to Winnipeg and it would be so much fun to catch up with Bob for a bfast or lunch. Smart. Caring. Helpful. Curious. He is one more person I am looking forward to seeing on the other side. - Posted by: Jamey McDonald (Friend) on: Oct 15, 2022

Dale, We are of course so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Although he is gone from this physical world, the imprint he left in your hearts and minds will be with you forever. That is his gift. I have lovely memories of you and I sewing summer dresses for the girls (Errin and Janna) as well as the coffee visits with the Ricci clan (next door to you) on Rue LeMaire. Surround yourself with family and friends as you travel this path of grief. It will take as long as it takes. God Bless you all. I first met Bob when I was in my 20s and started attending WRBC. From there, I started leading a junior high group and got to know his family a bit better through this ministry. I consider Bob (and Dale) to be an important mentor to me through the years- for youth leadership, how to consider your possessions as blessings to be used for ministry, for parenting, in church leadership. So many of my WRBC memories include examples of Bob's humour and wisdom. He cared for people deeply, loved his family well, and will surely be missed by so many. Dale, Errin, Heather and families, you will be in our prayers. Lorilee and family - Posted by: Lorilee Penner (Friend of Family) on: Oct 12, 2022
