Condolences & Memories (19 entries)

  • I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Glen, Mr. Shaw when he was a district Manager at Safeway. I worked part time in the produce department at store 587 (Grant Park). This was around 1974. I can remember that Glen, Mr. Shaw came and asked me how I liked working at Canada Safeway. I was new employee and it was and still is memorable. I then had a chance encounter with Glen, Mr. Shaw when we met and found out that we now lived across the street from each other. We had a laugh about old times and that we now lived close to each other. Glen, Mr. Shaw was a businessman and gentleman. The impression Glen, Mr. Shaw was lasting and will never be forgotten. My deepest sympathies go out to Glen’s, Mr. Shaw’s family and friends. Glen, will always be Mr. Shaw to me and thank you for the ever lasting memories you will never be forgotten. - Posted by: Arthur Lowry (Friend a previous co-worker) on: Dec 07, 2022

  • Our family is deeply saddened to hear of Glen’s passing and we want to express our deepest condolences to his family. Our father Ivan, has always held a special place in his heart for his dear cousin Glen, as they grew up together and he had many years of precious, fun filled memories of the two of them during that time. Later, when Glen and Alice introduced mom and dad to life at Island House at Padre Island , our whole family was able to get to know Glen and Alice and we still talk about the good times and wonderful hospitality that we experienced together. It was always a treat to golf together, play dominoes, happy hour by the pool and who could forget the amazing fish fry ups. It is our deepest hope that Glen’s family will be sustained by the memories and love they shared together over a lifetime. With sympathy Rita McGillivray on behalf of Ivan and the family. - Posted by: Ivan McGillivray (cousin) on: Oct 24, 2022

  • Alice and family, sincere condolences from myself and my family. Glen was a mentor to me as I'm sure he was to many people at Safeway. • My condolences to Alice on the passing of your beloved Glen. Glen had such a cheerful outlook to life. At times when we met, he seemed to have a mischievous behaviour-that is he liked pulling your leg. Then, you would hear this chuckle and see this big grin on his face. Working with Glen on the divisional SEA committee, I saw his organizational skills come into play when we were planning the annual spring banquets. Glen as the president, gave us a few minutes to scan the food items and costs. It seemed that in a matter of minutes we would have the complete meal planned and at a reasonable cost per person. These skills as well as his personal skills served him well over the years as a successful store manager and North District Manager. I had the pleasure of golfing with Glen several times and found him a very good and competitive golfer. I have many fond memories of Glen over the years at Safeway. Rest in Peace, God Bless - Posted by: colin dederick (co-worker) on: Oct 19, 2022
