IVY FERGUSSON HICKS
(nee LITTLE)

Peacefully on October 10, 2022, Ivy Hicks passed away at the Southeast Personal Care Home.
She is survived by her son Kelly (Julie); daughter Shawna (Myron); grandchildren, Kelsey (Pat), Kevin (Sam), Brooke (Peter), Maddison, Tess; great-grandchildren, Jake and Remi and sister-in-law Gail McKay. She was predeceased by her husband Clark of 63 years.
Ivy was born on November 14, 1933 in Winnipeg, MB. As a youngster, she grew up in the Earl Gray area and graduated from Kelvin High School, where she was active in many sports. Ivy volunteered with many organizations, but close to her heart was the speed skating community. She spent numerous winters standing in the cold weather timing at competitions and a proud moment for her was as a timer at the 1988 Winter Olympics. In her later years, she volunteered at the Winnipeg Humane Society which brought her a lot of enjoyment.
Ivy's favourite place on earth was their home on Lee River, surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and walking her dogs. She enjoyed many years of golf and curling at the Pinawa Golf and Country Club.
She was a wonderful mother and role model, the best grandmother and friend you could have. She will be sadly missed, but her memories will live on and never be forgotten. She is now at peace and has rejoined Clark.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff on Unit 2 at the Southeast Personal Care Home for the excellent care and compassion shown during her stay. A special thank you to her dancing partner John.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Shawna, your mother was a gift to me. Her kind words, her smile, her laughter was a welcome gift to me in our teen years. I am so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Diane Alexander (Teammate) on: Oct 27, 2022

  • Shawna, Kelly and family. So sorry to hear of Ivy’s passing. She was always very pleasant and willing to help on those cold, windy skating meets at SJSS club. Have great memories from our time at meets in Minneapolis and Thief River Falls. Always a smile and kind words to all the skaters. Your memories will live on throughout the years of a great lady. Condolences to all - Posted by: Carol Ronald ( new Betker) (Friend from speed skating) on: Oct 23, 2022

  • That smile - always warm and welcoming. One of the skating Moms. I always remember on all our travels feeling happy inside, witnessing many special bonds among the parents. Viv enjoyed Ivy’s company very much. Deepest sympathies to all the family. Trish Bergal (Johnson) - Posted by: Trish Bergal (Skating Acquaintances) on: Oct 22, 2022

  • Dear Shawna Kelly and all Ivy’s family. Ivy was such a dear friend. Golfing with her for years at Pinawa. One time we had our lunch in our bags and the bear opened Myrna Mol’s bag and ate her lunch. Another time the bear was up the tree on the course and we hopped back on our cart and took off before the bear came down. The time the fox grabbed our ball off the fairway. Guess he thought it was an egg. We later found out they had a den full of golf balls Ivy always had a muffin for lunch on the golf course. Fun at the lake. I remember one time picking her up on the jet ski and Ivy stood on the dock and I assured her it was safe to just hop on and she did and we both tipped off and into the water we went. We both laughed like crazy and Ivy said never again .The time Clark & Ivy visiting Larry & I in Florida with Shirley & Mike. So many wonderful memories to treasure. Her lovely smile I will never forget. Ivy you have earned your wings and Clark is waiting to greet you with open arms. RIP my dear friend. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal but Love leaves memories no one can steal and may all your wonderful memories of your Mom Grandma and Great Grandma somehow sustain you in your time of sorrow. To live in the hearts of those you leave behind is to never die and Ivy will live on in all our hearts forever.❤️❤️ - Posted by: Marlyn Harding (Friend) on: Oct 22, 2022

  • My heartfelt condolences to both Kelly and Shawna at this time of loss. I will always remember how kind and down to earth both of your parents were. Your mother was truly the "gold standard" for a parent and made a lasting impression on me as a teenager. - Posted by: Tracy Szumlak (Yesis) (Schoolmate) on: Oct 22, 2022
