My deepest condolences to Heather and Family. I only recently heard about Jon's sudden passing. It left me feeling sad and empty knowing that a special part of my past had been ripped away. I can't imagine your sadness and grief as Jon was such a strong, caring family man. Jon, Jaques and myself were the only guys in the new elementary physical education program 1970 - 1973 (Professor Kally Kennedy) with a group of lively females. It was challenging but fun with JL or Jacques always having a something funny to say. Jon was also my 1st year biology lab partner who was an expert at dissections and multiple choice questions. His support and encouragement was always appreciated. After graduating from university I only saw Jon on the odd occasion when I was travelling through the Brandon area. It was great to see Jon at the 2018 45th grad reunion. I wish I had had more time to visit with him on that occasion. Jon was a loving, caring, person who valued his relationships. He will be missed by all who knew him. - Posted by: Ed Hume (Fellow graduate BPE 73 and friend) on: Dec 13, 2022

Jon’s sudden passing really rocked me. A good friend since phys Ed we had some great adventures including ski trips and helping make sport a great place to be! Gonna miss him! His empathy, work ethic and sense of humour always ensured any endeavour would be successful and fun. His humble wisdom always helped so many us! He was always a man for others! I always cherished visiting the farm and hearing stories abut Heather and the kids! His love for ‘ family’ was a great legacy for all us! There are precious few people who either have a smile on their face all the time, or one seemingly not far below the surface. The more people we have in our lives like this the more blessed we are. Jon was one of those, and I count myself as lucky to have known him. Even in the midst of one of his political dissertations you always could see the twinkle lingering not far below the surface, in the eyes of a kind, caring, generous man. I could talk sports with Jon for hours. He loved sports. Among many possible symbols of his legacy, there should be a plaque in his honour on the 13th tee at Elm Creek Golf Course, where his stunning performance may never be duplicated - not 2 or 3 drives into the creek in a row, but five! Our knees buckled after number 5. Wes and Brad and I will share that moment forever, as we did many times with Jon, who pretended to be mad that we were bringing it up again but enjoyed laughing at himself as much as with us. I hope this little remembrance brings a much-needed smile to your faces Brad and Wes. And Lindsay. And Heather, you were all so lucky to have him.
