YVONNE GIBSON
May 8, 1932 - November 24, 2022
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Nora Marjorie Yvonne Gibson with family close by her side on November 24, 2022 at 90 years of age.
She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Davidson Henry (Hank) in 1997. Left to cherish her memory are Cindy (Barrie), Kerry (Diane) and Sherry (Wade).
Yvonne, an only child, was born on May 8, 1932 in Nordegg, Alberta, a small coal mining town in the foothills of the Rockies, to parents, Jessie (nee Sharples) of Adlington, Lancashire, England and Giovanni China of Aurava, Udine, Italy. Nordegg is where, at a young age she met our father, Hank. They married in August 1956 and moved to Churchill, Manitoba the very day after their wedding. What was initially to be a 2 year posting turned into an 8 year adventure, sparking Yvonne's lifelong love of Inuit sculpture, of which she had a treasured collection, landscapes, seascapes, flora and fauna of the North. All three children, Cindy and twins Sherry and Kerry were born there. Mom documented life and nature in Churchill through a great many photographs taken with her prized Leica camera and chronicled the daily life of our young family through letters diligently written twice weekly to her parents in Alberta who thankfully kept them all.
Our family relocated to Winnipeg in 1964 and settled on Cabot Crescent in St. Vital. It was a wonderful neighbourhood in which to grow and thrive. Yvonne remained in our family home for over 55 years where her passions for cooking and gardening were fulfilled.
By nature, our mother was kind and strong. We learned many lessons through her example, perhaps most importantly to strive to be considerate, sincere and humble. Yvonne loved the outdoors and had a strong affinity for birds and animals, her favourite being the polar bear. The family dogs always brought her great joy.
We wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to all those who cared so compassionately for our mother at Riverview Personal Care Home over the past two years and for the strong support provided to our family.
A private family service was held in accordance with our mother's wishes.

My sincere condolences to Cindy and family. I have such great memories of your mom Yvonne. Every year, she would gratefully take the many extra apples from our yard and made her pies, apple sauce etc. She was so appreciative! One of my fondest memories is Christmas 2019 at our house with my mother and mother-in-law present, along with Yvonne. We played a game and guess who won every time? yes, Yvonne! She was so cute!!! ❤️. Rest in peace Yvonne. - Posted by: Mariette Mulaire (Family friend) on: Dec 04, 2022
