DIANA NIXON
(AIELLO)
March 11, 1933 - February 8, 2023
On the morning of Wednesday, February 8, 2023, Diana Nixon took her last breath and went to her heavenly home at the age of 89.
She is predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) Nixon; her beloved and only child Donald Nixon; her parents, Maria and Battista Aiello; her sisters, Connie Rice, Genevieve Aiello, Margaret Nelson and Phyllis Smuchilla; her brothers-in-law, John Rice, Russell Smuchilla and Norman Nelson; her nieces, Linda Goodwin and Teresa Rice; niece-in-law Darlene Rice and nephew-in-law Ron Baker.
Left to cherish her memory are her grandsons, Joshua and Lucas Nixon; daughter-in-law Lisa Nixon; niece Charlene Baker and nephews John Nelson (Margy) and Johnny Rice (Michelle) as well as eleven great-nieces and nephews.
Diana was born March 11, 1933, in Winnipeg, the last of five girls to Maria and Battista Aiello. As the youngest of five girls in an Italian family Diana enjoyed a busy and bustling home always filled with relatives. Her childhood forged her values; faith, hard work, loyalty and of course lots of Italian cooking!
She married Bob Nixon in 1959 and after a long wait and a bit of a surprise welcomed her miracle baby Donald in 1973, whom she was forever proud of.
She met her long-time best friend, Jean ("Janet" as Diana used to call her) McMurray as a young girl at the R.C.M.P. Barracks. Janet was a very talented crafts person with whom Diana later shared many road trips and hijinks with at any craft show they could find!
During many years of caring for her parents, Diana also gave her time volunteering at Villa Cabrini Retirement Home where she forged many friendships including her dear friend Josie Lucidi. Later she gave her time volunteering at The Movement Centre of Manitoba, an organization very close to her heart.
We would like to thank the many caregivers at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for their unwavering compassion, support, encouragement, and care especially during Covid. We cannot fail to mention the ever-watchful eye of our very dear friend Lorrie, who was our eyes and ears there when we could not be.
Lastly, our heartfelt thanks to Father Sam of The Holy Rosary Church for the blessing Diana received.
There will be no formal funeral; a family interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Diana's memory may be made to CoHabit.ca, Cerebral Palsy Association of Manitoba Inc., 903 - 213 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3B 1N3.

Sad to hear of Diana’s passing. She had been a wonderful neighbour and friend. Her later years were more difficult and now she rests in peace. My sincere condolences to family and friends. - Posted by: Alice Arnal (Neighbour, realtor) on: Feb 18, 2023
