GEORGE EDWARD SCHACHT
January 29, 1940 - February 17, 2023
In loving memory of George Edward Schacht, 83 years, who passed away after a short illness at the Pinawa Hospital in Manitoba. George touched the lives of many people and leaves a legacy of kindness, generosity, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was a fiercely proud father who loved his children more than anything in the world. He often spoke of them and would do anything to support them in their endeavours. His love for them was unquestionable, unconditional, and unwavering.
George's optimistic nature, infectious grin, and booming signature laugh made him a beloved figure wherever he went. He had a natural ability to connect with people and was always willing to roll up his sleeves and help or to listen and offer advice. He had a way of making everyone feel at home, no matter where they came from or who they were. George always knew someone everywhere he went.
He began his long career at Temro Automotive as a production worker but quickly moved up to manage various departments within the company. During his time at Temro, he possessed a strong work ethic combined with a management style that earned him the nickname "Papa George."
As a young man of 17, George, along with his mother, sister, and uncle, built a cottage by the lake near Lac du Bonnet. Many wonderful memories were made there doing what he loved most - spending time with his family and friends. After many years residing in Winnipeg, George retired to his cottage where he spent time fishing, tinkering in his garage, and watching the wildlife. In more recent years he resided in his apartment in town, overlooking the same lake.
George loved music, a good steak on the BBQ, and driving his scooter through town. He enjoyed watching baseball, hockey, and curling from the comfort of his big chair.
George was predeceased by his mother Rose and his father Bernard (Bruce) Schacht. He was loved and cherished by many people including his sister Rosalie Lalonde (John), his daughter Michele (David), and his four sons, Bruce (Pam), Michael (Darlene), Christopher (Marcia), and Jeffrey. George is also survived by eight grandchildren, Brendan, Kristin (Kevin), Madison (Matthew), Jordan, Graham, Matthew (Kayenne), Nathaniel, Christopher (Samantha), and 11 great-grandchildren, Jaden, Brendan, Erik, Lucas, Carter, Adaleigh, Daniel, Colson, Waasigan, Julia, and Joseph. As well he leaves behind his niece Annette Nenonen (Nick), and two nephews, Tim Lalonde (Lisa) and Scott Lalonde (Sherry).
Thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Pinawa Hospital for their expert care.
There will be a private service at the request of George with family and close friends in attendance. Details to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Siloam Mission.
