WILLIAM (BILL) JOHN CAMIER
September 6, 1932 – December 20, 2022

It is with profound sadness that the family of William (Bill) John Camier, 90, formerly of the RM of Rockwood, Manitoba, announce his passing on December 20, 2022.
Bill was born to parents Richard John Camier and Hilda Agnes Tibbits on September 6, 1932 in Toronto, Ontario and resided there with his siblings until he enlisted in the military in 1950 at the age of 18. Bill lived his life in service to his country, serving others with love and kindness and at the same time embraced a deep devotion to his family.
Bill served his country with pride as a medic in the Royal Canadian Regiment in Korea and upon his return from Korea transferred into the Royal Canadian Air Force. During his time in the army, Bill received the Canadian Korea Medal and the United Nations Korea Medal. In the Royal Canadian Air Force, Bill received a Special Service Medal for service in Europe and a Canadian Forces Decoration for 22 years of service.
While still in the Air Force, Bill obtained his degree in Education and a Master's Degree in Psychology. Soon after his retirement from the Air Force, Bill became a teacher in the Winnipeg School Division. Bill had a passion for teaching and a commitment to lifelong learning. It was rare to find him not immersed in learning something new.
Bill's favourite pastimes were working on his hobby farm in the RM of Rockwood and skydiving. His years of service to others did not stop with retirement as he took on many volunteer efforts even going to "Clown School" to bring joy and smiles to palliative care patients both young and old that he visited. It was said that he made "the best" soup at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen in Selkirk and was a welcome volunteer at Stony Mountain Institution. Bill was an active member of St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, singing in the choir, visiting the sick and the shut-in, assisting with RCIA and working around the church property. Bill was also a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus Councils #6150 and #9425.
Bill was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Jacqueline (Jacquie) Marie, infant daughter Patricia, parents, Richard and Hilda, siblings, Leda, Hilda and Lyle. Bill is survived by his sister Doreen, sister-in-law Helen and brother-in-law Maurice.
Bill will be remembered with love by his children, John (Sharon), Mickie (Garry), Christie (Andy), Betty (Brian) and Joe (Rose) as well as a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the caregivers, nurses and staff at Middlechurch Personal Care Home for their kind and compassionate care for Bill as well as those at River Ridge Retirement Residence and Beacon Hill Lodge Long Term Care Home.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Saint John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Avenue (at Rouge Road) with Fr. Robert Polz presiding. Rite of Committal at Saint Margaret Roman Catholic Cemetery (St. Andrews).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bill's name to Saint John XXIII Roman Catholic Parish, 3390 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3K 0Z3 or to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
