SISTER LUCILLE ALARIE FDLC

(BERTHE SAINT-JOSEPH)

On Monday April 3, 2023, Sister Lucille was welcomed with open arms by her Lord. She is now reunited with her parents: Antoine and Théophiline Alarie, her siblings: Jean (Yvette), Father Joseph, o.m.i., Father Laurent, o.m.i., Célestin (+ Léona, Thérèse), Emilien (Alice), Soeur Berthe, f.d.l.c., as well as many religious sisters of the Filles de la Croix. Left to cherish her memory are her sisters Jeannine Courcelles (+ Albert), Mariette Pintkowsky (+ Hubert, + Daniel), and Thérèse Alarie (Michel Langlois), her many nephews and nieces, and members of her religious order.
Lucille was born in Ste-Agathe, MB on October 31, 1926 and she attended school in Ste-Agathe and St-Adolphe. At the age of 19 she began her formation with Les Filles de la Croix. She pronounced her first vows in 1947, and her final vows in 1952. After completing her formation at Normal School she began a teaching career which spanned 36 years in many Manitoba and Saskatchewan schools. A gentle, gifted and devoted teacher, she knew how to draw out the best in her students and was greatly appreciated by them. Upon retirement she followed a Lay Ministry Formation Program at Newman Theological College in Alberta and then devoted herself to the parishioners in Meyronne, Gravelbourg, Willow-Bunch and Coronach, Saskatchewan. While known for her musical talents, her serenity, gentleness, and joy, she did not hesitate to make her opinions known. Upon retirement, she returned to Manitoba and continued to assist others, volunteering at Foyer Valade and Taché Center, all the while assisting her sisters in any way she could. A woman of faith, spiritual and fun loving, Sister Lucille had a great love for her family, congregation and friends. Special thanks to the staff at Actionmarguerite St-Boniface for their gentle and loving care over the last three years.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Villa Aulneau, 601 Aulneau Street, on April 12, 2023 at 1:30 p.m., with viewing beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the St-Adolphe Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Sr. Berthe St. Joseph était une institutrice extraordinaire, tellement gentille dévouée à nous ses élèves. Je chérie ma huitième année à cause d’elle.
