THEODORE (TED) STANKEWICH

On April 5, 2023, Ted passed away in Transcona, Manitoba at the age of 79.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Lucy Stankewich, sisters, Joyce Roman and Margaret Oliver, along with brothers, Louis and George. Uncle Ted will be missed by his nieces and nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Ted was born on April 25, 1943 in Walkleyburg on the family farm. Ted gained his mechanic knowledge at the Fedak garage in Libau and then continued at additional garages. Ted became employed for the City of Winnipeg where he eventually became a supervisor of a concrete division. He worked for the city for over 30 years. Upon the passing of his mother in 1980, he moved with his father and brother Louis to Transcona where he provided care for them.

Ted always wanted a Studebaker truck. He achieved this. Interesting vehicles that he also owned included a VW Karmann Ghia, Nova, Hillmann and an El Camino. He would keep his cars for many miles. He also worked on TV, radio and small engine repairs. He was a regular at many auction sales throughout the province and attended the Morden Corn and Apple Festival regularly, as he loved the summer corn. He also grew his own garden and was always available for a coffee or a meal at Salisbury House or Tim Hortons.

The family would like to thank the neighbours and friends who spent time with Ted and provided him with homemade meals over the years.

Cremation has taken place and interment will occur at a later date with a private family gathering at the Walkleyburg cemetery, his final resting place.

Condolences may be left on his tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome
