LYLE VELIE

August 18, 1939 - April 28, 2023

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved brother Lyle Velie, on Friday, April 28, 2023, at Sunnywood Manor in Pine Falls, MB, at the age of 83.

Lyle was predeceased by his parents, Jean and Stephen, and niece Robin. Lyle is survived by brothers, Harold (Delores) and Stephen (Susan); nephew Michael (Cynthia); niece Jocelyn and her children, Brittney and Matthew; great-nephew Alexander and numerous cousins.

Lyle was born and raised in Pine Falls and worked at the local paper mill. He was an active long-time member of the Pine Falls Legion where he volunteered for many years. Lyle really enjoyed sports, especially hockey. He was a big Maple Leafs fan and in his earlier years he managed the Pine Falls Paper Kings hockey team.

Lyle loved going to the cottage at Flett’s Point on the Winnipeg River. This is where many good times with family and friends were held. One of Lyle’s favorite past times was listening to music, especially jazz. Lyle also enjoyed photography which was evident in the numerous photos he took on his trips across Canada, to Cuba, Africia, Fiji, Barbados, Tahitii and the Bahamas. One of Lyle’s endearing traits was his infectious laugh that will be missed by many.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sunnywood Manor for their care and compassion given to Lyle and long time friend Kelly Sharpe.

As per Lyle’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.

If you so wish, donations may be made in Lyle’s memory to Pine Falls Legion, Sunnywood Manor Personal Care Home, CNIB, or Parkinson Society Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Lyle was one of my husband Julius' group of friends. I had my first boat ride on his boat dodging the logs in the river. Last time I saw him was at an anniversary celebration at the the Pine Falls Legion a number of years ago. - Posted by: Joyce Pachkowsky (Friend) on: May 08, 2023

  • My condolences to Hardy on the passing of your brother. - Posted by: Ken Sargeant (friend) on: May 06, 2023

  • It is with relief that Lyle is free of being a prisoner in his own body, that we are writing to express our sympathy. We feel bad that COVID stuck him in Sunnywood without many visitors for his last many months. We were part of the birthday gang and enjoyed many potluck suppers together. He loved to tease me about my Blue Jays, especially if they were losing! - Posted by: Wayne and Linda Rudd (Friends) on: May 06, 2023
