JANICE GAIL RICHARDSON

(nee HEUCHERT)

Janice Gail Richardson (nee Heuchert) went peacefully to her heavenly rest at the age of 72, on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

Janice was born in Winnipeg and grew up in the North End. Janice attended St. Mary’s Academy and went on to earn her degree in education at the University of Manitoba. After graduation, Janice became a teacher, spending most of her career teaching in northern Manitoba and the Northwest Territories.

Janice loved the arts, with a special fondness for literature, music, theatre, and art. Janice was a very talented artist herself. Throughout her life, Janice was a deeply devout Catholic, a person of great faith, and that spirituality was often reflected in her art, words, and actions.

From an early age, Janice was also a free spirit, she loved to travel and wander the world. Growing up, Janice enjoyed summers at the family cottage near Beausejour. Early on, Janice was an ardent traveler, trekking across Canada, the United States, Europe, and the Holy Land. Janice often regaled friends and family with tales of her adventures, of staying in youth hostels in the 1970s, sampling exotic foods, and exploring new lands and cultures. In later years, Janice enjoyed numerous vacation trips to Mexico with her sister Doreen and family. Janice also lived overseas in England for two years, to help care for her young niece and nephews, Megan (John), William, and James, while their parents were at work. While there, Janice braved a massive crowd in London on New Year’s Eve 1999 to celebrate and usher in the new millennium. Alas, Janice’s earthly journey has ended. But Janice was a free spirit in life, so shall she be in death. There is no doubt Janice's faith in the Lord will lead her to eternal life and peace.

Janice was predeceased by her parents, William and Katherine (Gusnoski) Heuchert; her sister Doreen (John) Rudan, and brother Fred (Sharon) Heuchert. Janice is survived by her nephews, John Rudan, and Michael (Brenda) Rudan; niece Tessa Rudan; great-niece Megan (John); and great-nephews, James and William Rudan. Janice is also survived by her dearest friends Annie and Father Sean.

The family gives special thanks to Heather Glaser, Father Sean, Diana Borys, and The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for their caring, kind, and compassionate treatment and care of Janice for the last six and a half years. The family plans a private memorial mass and burial.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages charitable donations in Janice’s honour, to St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Catholic Church of Winnipeg or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
