STANLEY JOHN SUSINSKI

July 7, 1934 - May 14, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce that Stan Susinski, our loving father and grandfather, died on May 14, 2023.

Stan is survived by his children, Cheryl Susinski (Susan Peterman), Julie Gervino, and Bill Susinski (Elizan Chee), and his grandchildren, Stephanie, Angela, Christopher, Sara and Summer. Stan is predeceased by his wife Ann, his brother Greg Susinski, and his sister Vera Stokes.

Stan was born and raised in Lomond, Alberta and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from UBC in 1959. He met his wife Ann over a bridge table in Vancouver, and together they relocated to Winnipeg where he started his career in the financial industry at Great West Life. Stan and Ann spent 20 years in Winnipeg, and created a warm and busy home for their children in River Heights - Stan was active on the vestry at St. Lukes and St. Aidans churches, he was a regular spectator at his children’s sports events, and was also active on the Badminton and Tennis courts at the Winnipeg Winter Club. Stan and Ann had many close friends, and the family home was often filled with people coming to play bridge or poker, dropping by for one of Ann’s elaborate meals, or to enjoy a glass of scotch. In 1981, Stan left his job as Director of the Bond Markets at Great West Life to begin the second chapter of his career in Edmonton, as Chief Financial Officer for the Alberta Treasury. Ann and Stan soon settled into life in Edmonton and made many friends at the Royal Glenora, and over the bridge table. In 2002 Ann died following a courageous battle with cancer, and Stan relocated back to Winnipeg to be closer to his daughters. Soon after he met his second wife Cassandra and they enjoyed 10 years together.

Stan was a loyal, principled hard-working man, who was a wonderful father, loving husband, and a great role model and leader. He enjoyed travelling and many sports, but his favourite times were sitting around the table with family at Sunday dinner. He thoroughly enjoyed time spent with his family and was always grateful for all he had in life. His children and grandchildren appreciated his gentle nature, attentiveness, generosity, wisdom and sarcastic sense of humour.

At Stan’s request, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service was held Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home.

We would like to thank all of Stan’s healthcare providers and all of our friends and family for their support during this time.

Donations in Stan’s name can be made to the Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation in Winnipeg.

We love you Dad/Grampa and will miss you forever. May you Rest In Peace.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I remember Stan when he attended Epiphany Lutheran Church in Winnipeg. He was very nice and friendly. I recall as well that he volunteered a bit at the daycare which was part of our Church building. He wanted the children to call him "Grandpa Stan". He was a very kind person to know. My condolences in his passing. - Posted by: Lynn (acquaintance ) on: May 21, 2023
