Richard passed away peacefully at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre.
He leaves to mourn his passing, Leslie, his wife of 40 years, his daughter Tyra (Curtis) and two grandsons, Nicholas and A.J; his sister Jane (David) and numerous nieces and nephews; his sisters-in-law, Janice and Gail (Taras) and many cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, John and Pat Masters, his brother Michael, his son Troy, and his brother-in-law, Dean Nicolson.
Richard was born in Petersfield, Manitoba, and grew up on the family farm. After his father passed away at an early age of 47, his mother (a war bride from England), took Richard, his brother and sister, first to Selkirk, then to Montreal before moving them to England; there Richard furthered his education.
Richard came back to Manitoba to work on the farm, following his father's dream to rent lots out on the creek. Richard realized that dream, and made it his own, creating the Pajo Mirija Seasonal Resort with the help of his wife, daughter, sister and brother, his grandsons and his sister's family when they came over for summer holidays.
When not working on the Resort, Richard worked in the Elevator Trade as a mechanic for many years and retired due to poor health in 2000. Richard continued to be a mentor to his grandsons to take over the business with help from his wife Leslie.
The Masters Family Crest motto is: "Non minor est virtus quam quaerere parta tueri" which translates to: "It is no less an achievement to keep possession than to acquire it".
Richard worked very hard all his life to protect his family and attain his goals. He was a good, kind, loving and caring man.
Richard will be fondly remembered by all his family and friends.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
