ANITA PRETEAU

(nee LARIVIERE)

It is with great sorrow that we announce Mom’s passing on June 1, 2023. It is never easy to say goodbye to someone we love so dearly. We were lucky enough to have her with us for 89 years, where she showered us with love.

She lived the majority of her life in St. Malo with her loving husband Edouard and her four sons, Lévis (Carole), Gérard (Lucille Preteau-Roy), Noel (Rose) and Henri (Shirley), seven grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild.

Mom was born on July 25, 1933. She had been a housewife all her life. When it became difficult for Dad to find work, Mom decided it was time for her to contribute financially to the family’s well-being. She started working at the sewing factory that was located very close to home and where she made many friends.

Even though she was happy with this job, nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by good friends and family. She was always up to make someone laugh with her antics. Memories such as cutting wood and having family picnics, Sunday gatherings at home and sharing some of her great cooking, camping at Moe’s Campground or simply lending a hand with projects using her mastery of canning and sewing. Mom had a great joie de vivre which was enjoyed by all who knew her. She also taught us the importance of faith which she exemplified until her last days. She was one of a kind!

Since February 2019, she had been a resident of the Repos Jolys. At the start of her stay, she was helping staff fold tea towels and talking with fellow residents. Helping others with a big smile was always in her nature. Even during the last week of her life, she found enough energy to smile. Complaining was never in her nature and with all the cards she was dealt, she embraced what the Lord gave her. In her final days, family was reunited by her side, just as she would have wanted it. Nous t’aimons et reposez en paix.

We would like to thank the staff at Repos Jolys for the great care you gave our Mom.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the St. Malo Roman Catholic Church, St. Malo, MB on Monday, June 19, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with the eulogy beginning at 1:15 p.m.
