HERBERT HENRY EICHKORN

We are saddened to announce that, after a brief illness, Herb Eichkorn, peacefully passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, June 7, 2023.

Herbert Henry Eichkorn was born in the Black Forest region of Germany on March 28,1925 and came to Canada on the boat in March of 1927. At age 2, he was the youngest of a group of staunch German farm families who cleared and settled the land in the Little Britain community and he proudly continued farming his own land well into his 80s.

When he wasn’t busy farming, Herb’s younger years were kept busy as the proud owner of Lockport Mower Service. Herb was very content hustling around the shop selling and repairing lawn and garden equipment. He will always be remembered as a fair and trustworthy businessman. He certainly enjoyed all of the social connections he made through the business and seemed to know everyone around.

For those of us who knew him well, Uncle will be remembered as a feisty and spirited hard-working man who was blessed to live independently at home until just days before he died. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law Chris Eichkorn, nieces Nancy Ford and Carolyn Eichkorn, nephew Geoff Eichkorn, as well as his nephew Charlie Koch and family, his niece Joan Koch in Toronto, their extended family and many friends. He will also be missed by his longtime companion Jean Dee. Herb now joins his loving mother and his siblings Inga and Charlie and other family who predeceased him.

Funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, 103 Little Britain Road, Lockport, Manitoba. We hope you will join us in celebrating and remembering Herb’s wonderful 98 years.
