WALTER DOMANSKI

With deep sadness, we mourn the passing of Walter John Domanski, aged 94, on Thursday, June 8, 2023, in St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg.

He is survived by his daughter Allyson (Gary Kohlruss) and son Mark (Andrea) Domanski; grandchildren Mirissa Kohlruss (Laura Dang) and Gabriel Kohlruss, Cole and Reese Domanski; and many nieces and nephews.

Walter was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Verna (née Kotelo), his parents Anna (Lotecki) and Anton Domanski, and all seven of his older siblings: Frank (Katie) Domanski, John (Jean) Domanski, Mary (Nick) Bodnarchuk, Joe (Eileen) Domanski, Stanley (Adele) Domanski, Julie (David) Fain, Helen (Roy) Budd.

Walter grew up in Garson, MB, and married Verna, the beauty next door. He and Verna raised their family in Winnipeg and cottaged at Otter Falls.

Walter’s skills as a millwright machinist were prized by Dominion Malting, his employer until retirement at age 65. He served on the Whiteshell Cottagers’ Association Board of Directors for 17 years and volunteered at Our Lady of the Whiteshell Chapel.

There was nothing that that sharp-minded, practical handyman couldn’t build, fix, or take care of. An avid fisherman, a keen crib player, and an uncanny bowler, Walter loved nature, the outdoors, sports, his garden, and travel. He was a gentle, loyal, kind-hearted family man of few words but a quick wit, right to the end.

A funeral mass was held Friday, June 16, 2023, at St. Alphonsus Church, 315 Munroe Ave, Winnipeg, with viewing prior. Interment followed that day at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Garson, MB.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I started as an insurance agent back in 1976 and that is when I first met Walter and Verna. They had been clients of previous agents and I was assigned to look after them. What I didn’t know was that many others before me had been assigned the account and had left. I later found out that I was set up, because Verna knew our manager and every time he would send out a new person, she would test their mettle. I survived and went on to become a manager myself. I used to enjoy going to visit and chat with Walter and I will never forget the recipe for GORP that Allyson and Verna gave me. - Posted by: Dave Grant (Old acquaintances ) on: Jun 14, 2023
