Charles L’Ami, of Winnipeg, MB, passed away on May 18, 2023.
Charlie was born on March 1, 1932 to Charles E. L’Ami and Pearl L’Ami (nee Driscoll).
Charlie received a Degree in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Manitoba and had a lengthy and varied engineering career that took him to Gillam, Saskatoon and Ghana before returning to Winnipeg. He retired from Manitoba Hydro. Charlie was passionate about engineering and loved what he did for a living. Although his work took him far afield, he was always a St. James boy at heart.
After his retirement, Charlie had time to pursue his love of puttering in his home and with his projects, and making time for his friend groups who met for regular breakfasts and lunches.
Charlie was predeceased by his parents and his close friend Peter Whitworth.
He will be missed by dear friends, Sandra and Christopher Whitworth; goddaughter Joan Schmidt and the extended Schmidt family; and godson Clive Wightman and the extended Wightman family, as well as his close group of friends.
Service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Charlie’s memory to the University of Manitoba to assist in sustaining heritage and older buildings on campus.
