With his loving wife by his side, Chuck Einfeld passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at the age of 81 years.
Chuck will be sadly missed by his wife Pauline; his sons Bradley (Janice) and Sheldon; son-in-law Ken; grandchildren Jared (Roksana), Blake (Anna), Bailey (Leon) and Riley; great-grandchildren Ernest and Otto; brother Marinus; niece Nikki; as well as many other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Simon and Jean Einfeld and his daughter Crystal.
Chuck was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Elmwood. His summers were spent at the seasonal family run-bakery (Einfeld’s Bakery) in Victoria Beach, which was taken over by his parents (Simon and Jean Einfeld) from Jean’s parents (Gus and Lillian Cox). He worked at the family bakery each summer learning the trade from his father Simon, and some of his uncles, who were also bakers. During the year of the flood, he attended the Victoria Beach school, which made his bond with the community even stronger.
With his love for music and many years of taking accordion lessons, then learning how to play the guitar, he became a member of the band “The Chord-U-Roys”. He played rhythm guitar as well as doing backup vocals. They were quite popular in the early 60’s and were even showcased on Winnipeg’s own “Teen Dance Party”.
Chuck was also a member of the Victoria Beach Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed curling at the local club in the weekly square draw and numerous bonspiels. Other hobbies included model airplanes, playing baseball with the “Victoria Beach All-Nighters” and snowmobiling. He also raced snowmobiles for a while (Polaris and later Rupp). Chuck always loved a good party! He loved to pick up his guitar and entertain, sometimes till the wee hours of the morning. This sometimes made it difficult to maintain his early morning bread-making duties!
Chuck took on various jobs in the off-season. By the time his parents had acquired a bakery on Portage Avenue (Woodies Goodies), where he also worked, he continued gaining life experience working at Furnaceman in Winnipeg for a brief period. He also worked as an electrician’s helper, as well as learning how to build houses in the northern communities, but always returned to Victoria Beach in the summer months. And eventually took over Einfeld’s bakery from his parents. He enjoyed running the family business and liked to whistle while he worked. Many of his young employees went on to continue in the Bakery industry as well.
As his children became proficient in the bakery, he was able to acquire a year-round bakery in Pine Falls. Having a few days off now in the summer meant he was able to enjoy one of his other passions-boating. He would often take the staff members and some of their families out for a boat ride. This is where he met the love of his life, Pauline. They hit it off immediately, and in a few short years they were married. This gave him a lifelong partner to work by his side. As his son Brad took over the bakery in Victoria Beach, they were able to concentrate on the year-round bakery in Pine Falls, delivering to neighbouring communities, including the airport, which let Einfeld’s Bakery products be shipped to northern fishing lodges.
Retiring in 2000, it was found out that the pair had a green thumb and started planting a huge garden. Having an acreage that large kept Chuck busy on his lawnmower, most of the summer. The grandkids always loved eating veggies out of the garden at Grandpa and Pauline’s. He always got a kick out of watching the grandkids scooting around the yard on mini quads and minibikes.
Chuck always maintained a good sense of humour which he passed down to all of his kids. He rarely argued… unless you didn’t agree with him! He was a sociable guy, always hospitable, and he like nothing more than when an old friend would stop by for a visit. He will be deeply missed by all his friends, family and the community.

Interment will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 11:30 a.m., on Annette Ave. in St. George’s, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Victoria Beach Sports Club.

Sincere Sympathy to his Family in the passing of Chuck. I always looked forward to the winters at Family Fare where Chuck would come join his Dad, Brother and extended family to the bakery. He always came in with a smile and something nice to say. Even at that time he lived his life his way. May your family memories fill your hearts and embrace his spirit.
