SHARLEEN JEAN MCLEAN

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Sharleen McLean on June 15, 2023 at the Selkirk Hospital. She is the second child of Jim and Hertha McLean.

Sharleen will be lovingly remembered by her sister and lifelong partner, Debbie; brothers, Greg and Myles; as well as nephews, James (Wendy), Adam, Garett (Johann), Trevor, Michael (Meagan) and niece Megan. Her great-nieces, Everliegh, Jemma, Isla, Ava and nephew Rowen were her pride and joy.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Hertha (Merke) in 1993.

Sharleen had a long and distinguished career as a nurse, beginning as an LPN and then upgrading to an RN. She worked at Norway House, Pinawa and Whitemouth, as well as doing some home care nursing and doing palliative care for people wanting to stay at home. Unfortunately, she had many health problems and fully retired in 2008 and began her journey with her lawn mower after that. She loved to cut grass. She had many travels over the years, to Hawaii, Australia, the southern states, but she was mostly a homebody with many pets. She loved to cook and bake and provided many meals for her family.

In later years she was in Stony Plain for one year, then Betel Home in Gimli until she was transferred to Whitemouth Personal Care Home in January 2023, where she really enjoyed reconnecting with former workmates and friends.

We would like to thank special friends, Betty, Lois and Lynda and special “seester” Brenda for all the visits and laughter. We would also like to thank our church family and relatives for all their support and prayers over the years. We would like to thank the many nurses and care aids for all the care and compassion they showed towards Sharleen.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to St. Paul Lutheran Church in River Hills, to a pet rescue or a charity of your choice.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with viewing one hour prior at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in River Hills, with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

  • Dear Debbie, I was so sorry to hear of Sharleen’s passing, she was a lovely woman and a great nurse. I have so many memories of working and especially laughing with Sharleen when she worked in Pinawa. We never had a dull moment even on those long sometimes quiet night shifts and how relieved we would be when it was time to get going on the early morning work and we could then think about getting home to bed. Sharleen always spoke of her family your Mum, Dad, Debbie, Greg and Myles..I felt that I knew you all long before I met any of you…her other loves her animals and of course her car were also topics of conversation. Thinking of all of the family at this time and hopefully if all goes well will see you on Thursday. Deepest Sympathy, May - Posted by: May Fast (Friend former co worker) on: Jun 18, 2023

  • Deb & family: I was very saddened to read of Shar's passing in the Saturday Wpg. Free Press. So very, very sorry to hear. It`s been a long time since meeting you & Shar. Fran told me of Shar`s injury and subsequent issues. What a shame. Fran said she had hoped to visit Shar at the Whitemouth Personal Care Home at some point. Sending heartfelt condolences to all of you. Sincerely, Marjorie Zimmer (Fran`s sister). Take care all. - Posted by: Marjorie Zimmer (other) on: Jun 18, 2023
