RUBY GRACE YARISH

(WOIDEN)

March 5, 1937 – June 20, 2023

It is with much sadness that family announces Ruby, beloved wife of the late David Yarish, and daughter of the late Minnie and John Woiden, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 years with family by her side on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Ruby passed after a brief illness knowing she was loved and honoured.

Her memory will be forever cherished by her children David Yarish, Bruce Yarish, Leanne (Craig) Chumley, daughter-in-law Cindy Leochko, and grandchildren Brett Yarish (Jennifer), Hayley Yarish, Jordan (Lexi) Yarish, Wyatt (Aileen) Yarish, Morgan (Regan) Yarish, Andrew Chumley, and great-grandchildren Paisley and Sophie Yarish.

Ruby was predeceased by her husband David in 1996, sons Brad, Doug, and Paul, grandson Brian, parents Minnie and John Woiden, brothers Leonard and Chester, and sisters Florence and Margaret.

Ruby was born on March 5, 1937, in Young, SK, and lived in Brandon, MB for 70 years. Ruby moved to Brandon when she was 16 and became a hairstylist at Nu-Fashion Hair Salon, where she made many lifetime friends. She and Dave were married in 1956 and raised six children. Ruby and Dave were married for just shy of 50 years. They enjoyed watching their children excel at sports and in their careers, but most of all loved spending time together as a family. Ruby also worked at the Brandon General Hospital for 22 years and retired in 1999.

Ruby was a loving, brave, strong woman who showed strength and courage while supporting David during his heart transplant journey in 1999. A mother's love is so powerful. She always improvised, adapted and overcame adversity, and was a role model to many. She enjoyed many friendships and special times while working at the hospital and was known to be the “life of the party”. She had many special times with her colleagues and was forever grateful for those times.

After retiring, she became a foster parent for FCS of Western Manitoba and nurtured many special children over those years. She was a very loving and nurturing mother and foster parent. She loved to garden, and took pride in maintaining the family home. She had many friends whom she would coffee with, and they would also attend the Legion Meat Draws. However, most important to her was spending time with her grandchildren and children, and sharing in their accomplishments and milestones. She loved her family, and they were the most important to her.

Special mentions to longtime friends (sister-in-law) Pat, Joan, Marge, Maggie, Maxine, Jean and Anita. Mom loved you all.

Special thank you to the staff and doctors on both the Palliative Unit and 500 at the BRHC for their love, support and the compassionate care they provided our mother during her time in hospital. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.

Lastly, a special heartfelt thanks to special angels that watched over our mother from homecare; Marilyn Swan, Lori from Life Matters and Teresa and Danielle from Victoria Landing.

Last but not least, a special heartfelt thank-you to Joe Ball and Craig Hayward. Your love, presence, compassion, strength and reassurance always put mom at ease.

At Ruby’s request, a private family graveside service took place at the Brandon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ruby may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Canada, 4211 Yonge Street, Suite 520, Toronto, ON M2P 2A9.
