GARY THOMAS PHILLIPS
We are deeply saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Gary Thomas Phillips after a hard-fought battle with stomach and esophageal cancer, on June 28, 2023, at the age of 71.
He leaves behind his wife of 25 years, Agatha, daughter Amber (Bob), stepdaughter Naomi, foster sons, Louis and Dameon, step-granddaughters, Gina and Kristen. He also leaves behind brother Alan (Susan), sister Lori (Gerry), nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Gary wore many varied hats during his employment years, working for Manitoba Parks and Recreation, Speedy Auto Glass, and as an Educational Assistant, to name a few. However, retirement and time spent with family and friends were what he treasured most.
Gary grew up in St. Vital, but as he loved the country, he and Agatha moved and owned a hobby farm in St. Laurent for many years. While residing in the area, he was very proud to be a volunteer First Responder. He has now resided in Vassar, Manitoba for the last 10 years. Gary was a great outdoors man. He loved nothing more than to be hunting or fishing, always after the elusive "big one"! In recent years he also made many trips to Mexico for deep water fishing. Gary had so many stories to tell and the fish kept getting bigger! Often the size was true, proven by his Master Angler Awards, trophies and take-home tournament prizes. He was always so excited to fill us in on his big catch! We will dearly miss the telling of his adventures.
Cremation has taken place. A service of remembrance will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, per Gary’s request, donations may be made "In Memory of Gary Thomas Phillips" to Manitoba CancerCare Foundation in support of Pediatric Cancer Care, specifically "KIDFISH".
