PAUL JOSEPH DESROSIERS
Our extraordinary, kind-hearted, zealous father (Paul Desrosiers) succumbed to his cancer on June 27, 2023 at his home in St. Vital with his family by his side.
Paul was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years Shirley, his parents Emilien and Ernestine, sister Anna, brother George, sister Thérèse (Aimé) Trudel, brother-in-law André Barnabé, sister Marie (Daniel) Deschene, brother-in-law Leslie Lipischak, sister Claire (Auguste) Lagassé, brother-in-law Stan Robertson, sister Yvette (Henri) Lambert, brother Maurice (Marcelle), brother-in-law Alfred Marion, brother-in-law Claude Gosselin, brother Jean, and sister-in-law Carol Bergmann, and grandson René (son of Ronald Desrosiers).
He is survived by his son Ronald Desrosiers (Debra Acton), Richard Desrosiers, and daughter Deanna (Merv) Richardson. Paul will be cherished deeply by his grandchildren Monique (Pat) Huberdeau, Ryan Desrosiers, Nathan (Holly) Desrosiers, Ecko Baldwin, Kaylan and Luke Richardson, as well as his great-grandchildren Arianne, Brielle and Marco Huberdeau and Parker Paul Desrosiers. He will be forever dearly loved by Sherri Desrosiers, Midge Cardoso, sister Léonne Barnabé, sister Jeanne Lipischak, sister Celine Robertson, sister Estelle Marion, sister Simone Gosselin, sister Bertille (Lucien) Croteau, sister-in-law Edith Desrosiers, brother Robert Desrosiers (Sharon), brother Guy (Claire) Desrosiers, plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Teaching always came naturally to Paul–he was a school teacher for 33 years, where he taught history and social studies in exciting and memorable ways; he also taught lessons on drum-making, hunter safety, and canoeing. Paul was all about family, friends and his people. When he wasn’t out hunting and fishing with his sons, he could be found spearheading the Métis Pavilion for Folklorama and volunteering at the Festival du Voyageur. Paul was a strong member of L’Union Nationale Métisse Saint-Joseph du Manitoba. In 2019 he was awarded the ‘Prix Riel’ for over 20 years of volunteering and his contribution to the french culture in Manitoba.
The Celebration of Life will be on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Dakota Community Centre (1188 Dakota Street). An interment will take place earlier with the immediate family. We ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

Condolences to the Desrosiers family. I have great memories of Mr. Desrosiers as a teacher but more so as a friend outside of school. Taught me (and other students)taxidermy, hunter safety course all on his own time and in his own house. Got my brother and I started in raising pheasants many years ago too. - Posted by: Ray Patenaude (Student/Friend) on: Jul 16, 2023

- Posted by: Marc St-Onge (Étudiant) on: Jul 14, 2023

My condolences to the family. I taught school with Paul in St. Adolphe in the early 70's. He had two favorite sayings that stayed with me to this day. #1= Please class, keep it down to a dull roar. #2= Comment va la guerre Aux prunes? He was a great teacher and the students respected him. Sad to hear you are gone. - Posted by: Gilles Hebert (CO-worker) on: Jul 09, 2023

Paul, was the first person that I met when I had moved into the apartment building. We were in the elevator and he had a bag of cucumbers and tomatoes from the garden. He welcomed me, and handed them both to me. He said that once I am done with the day, I will probably be exhausted so at least you can make yourself a nice toasted tomato and cucumber sandwich. He also said that if I needed mayonnaise or anything else to complete my supper that I just had to go knock at his door. I was a complete stranger! This is the kind of guy he was. He helped many people in the block. - Posted by: Line Courcelles (Friend) on: Jul 08, 2023

Mr. Desrosiers was always ready to share his knowledge and passions with others. He was genuinely interested in others. Following his example, Some of us eventually also became teachers. All the while, when challenges or opportunities presented themselves, we would ask ourselves, how would Mr. Desrosiers handle this situation. Merci pour ton example! - Posted by: Raymond Gosselin (Student) on: Jul 08, 2023
