KARL EISBRENNER

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Karl Eisbrenner on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at the age of 92 years.

Dad is survived by his sons, Carl (Susan) and Ron (Janet); grandsons, Matthew, Michael and Ryan (to whom Dad was a loving Opi), and his brother Siegfried.

Dad was predeceased by his beloved wife Hulda in 1979; his parents, Reinhold and Ottilie Eisbrenner and eight brothers and sisters.

Dad was born of German descendants in Sergejowka, Poland on September 25, 1930 where his family owned a farm and a blacksmith shop. Following the family’s resettlement as a result of the Second World War and subsequent fleeing of the advancing Soviet Red Army, the family ended up in Bielefeld, Germany, where Dad’s mother had relatives. It was there that Dad met the one true love of his life, Hulda Welke, whom he married in 1953.

Shortly after getting married, Dad and Mom immigrated to Canada, travelling on the ship “Fairsea” and arriving in Quebec City. Dad came to Canada with $2 in his pocket, little formal education, and not speaking a word of English.

Dad and Mom initially settled in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, where some of his immediate family had previously relocated, and then subsequently moved to Regina and then ultimately to Winnipeg in 1977.

Dad became a successful businessman in the automotive industry. His leadership also extended beyond the world of business into his faith community and charitable endeavors. Dad was also a tremendous friend, maintaining strong and enduring friendships with people of all ages locally, nationally and internationally. His care and compassion for those he loved and for whom he was concerned included visitation to the sick, suffering and the discouraged, which at times resulted in him making multiple trips to hospitals and personal care homes on the same day.

Dad was an amazing, unique and special man. He was a man of vision, with a daring, imaginative, and determined spirit. He always believed that nothing was impossible with God’s help. He lived life with a purpose, being a man of deep faith with a firm trust in Jesus Christ as His Lord and Saviour. His was a long, eventful and fruitful life. His passing leaves those of us left behind mourning a tremendous loss, but at the same time makes us forever grateful that God gave us the blessing of Dad in each of our lives.

Our family expresses its sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Meadowood Manor for their loving care, compassion, friendship and support provided to Dad during his residency.

In accordance with Dad’s wishes, a private service has been held.

For those who desire, donations in Dad’s memory may be made to Meadowood Manor Foundation Inc., 102-575 St. Anne’s Road, Winnipeg, MB R2M 5B2, designated to the Special Projects Fund.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation – of whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1, NIV)

  • I just learned of Karl’s passing and my heartfelt condolences are extended to his wonderful family. I had the pleasure of knowing Karl for a number of memorable years as a customer of his car dealership and as a banker where I always enjoyed his stopping by for chats and coffee. His obituary described him perfectly in my opinion as I will always remember his kindness, wisdom and wonderful approach to life and those he cared for. A man of utmost integrity and a true gentleman. Don Wilson friend - Posted by: Don wilson (Friend) on: Jul 16, 2023

  • Our entire family is so sad to hear of Karls' passing. We just saw him at Meadowood Manor a few weeks back & had a nice but short visit... Karl was a beloved friend & neighbour here on our little cove in Charleswood. When our 2 daughters were quite young, they'd always love it when "Mr Eisbrenner" would pull into the cove with his car. He'd stop by our front lawn where the girls were playing & open the trunk of his car & hand both our girls sweets & chocolate bars. (Apparently our our dentist loved Karl as well...) My wife & I were always welcome in Karls' home. I especially had many, many wonderful visits with him. He was like a a wise old friend to me. There are far too many great memories to share here. Just know that you are loved & will be deeply missed Karl. Rudy, Debbie, Alanna & Shelby Kessen - Posted by: Rudy Kessen (Friend & Neighbour) on: Jul 16, 2023
