Peacefully and surrounded by family, Kenneth S. Warren passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at 92.
Ken was born to Roy and Kathleen Warren on August 14th, 1930, in Treherne, Manitoba. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend to all who knew him. His infectious smile and personality always left a lasting impression.
Ken is survived by his two sons, Jeff (Shannon) and Howard (Karin); grandchildren, Ashley (Matt), Taylor (Erin), and Spencer (Carl); and great-grandchildren, Chase, Makena, Madden, Forrest, Crew, and Brooks.
He was predeceased by his loving parents, Roy and Kay; his wife Lorraine; his brother Richard (Bud); his sister Shirley; and his great-grandson Tucker.
Ken grew up in Swan Lake, Manitoba, with his brothers Bud and Bob, and sisters Elsie and Shirley. He always told stories about the "good old days" growing up in the Tiger Hills area. Whether they were true or not, they always left us laughing and well-entertained. When Dad told a story, you had better grab a seat because it would usually take a while.
As a young man, Dad began working with the CN Railroad as a telegraph operator in various locations throughout Western Canada and Northwest Ontario. During one of his placements in Steep Rock, Manitoba, he met the love of his life, Lorraine. For the majority of his working life, Dad was involved in the insurance industry, first in sales and later as an underwriter. He was always good with numbers and became a bookkeeper for many companies throughout the years.
Dad was always an athlete, and he competed at high levels in both hockey and baseball. He played both sports very well and well into his seventies. He was also an avid curler who enjoyed a bonspiel or two.
Ken was an "ALL-STAR" volunteer. The associations, clubs and organizations that he belonged to are honestly too long to list here. He never volunteered for any other reason than to try and make a difference. Our family is very proud to say that Dad has a baseball diamond named after him in Charleswood in recognition of all of the volunteering he did over the years.
Family and friends always meant the most to Dad, whether it was the summer barbecues at Grandma and Grandpa’s on Dieppe Road in Charleswood, or surrounding himself with all the great-grandkids and grandkids. But the family that meant the most to him was his beautiful wife, Lorraine, who was taken from us far too young. There wasn’t a day in the last 20 years that Dad didn’t think of Mom. She truly was the love of his life and always his number-one priority. Her happiness was what brought him joy every day.
We love you and miss you dearly, Dad, but we can rest assured that you are now in the arms of your saviour, Jesus Christ, with whom you have had a relationship with for many years, and that you are now holding hands and walking through a beautiful meadow with Mom.
To all of our family and friends, please know that we appreciate all of your prayers and support.
The funeral service will be held at St. Mary's Anglican Church, 3830 Roblin Blvd., in Charleswood, on Wednesday, August 9th, at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations can be made to St. Mary’s Anglican Church.
