EWART EDWARD FLETCHER

(FLETCH)

June 30, 1928 - July 25, 2023

It is with great sadness we announce the death of Ewart ("Fletch”) Fletcher at the age of 95, at Beacon Hill Lodge in Winnipeg. Fletch was surrounded by family and love.

Fletch was born in Lyleton, MB to Ed and Irene Fletcher (nee McNish) and grew up on the family farm. Fletch married Donna Nixon on October 24, 1953. They were together for 57 years, and raised three daughters, Karen, Barb and Kim.
Fletch was "the best damn banker", and a loyal employee in a job he loved with Scotiabank for 40 years, ending his career in Kenora, ON.

Fletch was known for his kindness and generosity. We never heard him say anything negative about anyone. He was selfless in giving to community, volunteering with Ducks Unlimited, the Lions Club, curling and community clubs, Rosedale United Church, and many more. He was also a regular blood donor.

He enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved to dance, golf, curl, play bridge and crib, and spend time with friends, family and grandchildren. After retirement he enjoyed going south in the winters for 21 years and woodcarving beautiful ducks and birds.

Fletch was predeceased by his wife, Donna, his parents, Ed and Irene Fletcher, his brother Everett Fletcher, his in-laws, Mel and Thelma Nixon, his son-in-law, Ed Allen, his special friend, Nancy Marchylo, in addition to many loved brother and sister-in-laws and many dear friends.

Dad will be remembered and deeply missed by his daughters, Karen Fletcher and Dick Forbes, Barb Fletcher and Eric Palibroda, Kim and Roy Denomme; his brother, Al Fletcher and Arrol Young, sister-in-law Maureen Fletcher and brother-in-law Merril McNichol; grandchildren Kate (Garret) Lair, Joe (Patia) Denomme, Emily (Matt) Cabana, Marty Palibroda; four great-grandchildren, James, Norah, Eli, Alison; and many loved nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the staff at Beacon Hill Lodge for the loving care they provided over the past three years, including Susannah, Evelyn, Sara, Edel, Alfred, Ermilyn, Senait, Danny and so many others.

Fletch loved animals. If so desired, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society (winnipeghumanesociety.ca/ways-to-help/donate/) or a charity of your choice.

A celebration of Fletch’s life will be held Friday, September 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, Green Acres Lane, Highway #1 E. at Navin Road.

He was a good man, and will be deeply missed.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • We were saddened to learn of Fletch’s passing and want to express our sympathy to his daughters, their families and his friends. We came to know Fletch during his time at the Seine River Retirement Residence where he became a close friend of Nancy Marchylo (our mother, grandmother and great grandmother). Fletch was a quiet spoken, pleasant gentleman whose friendship meant the world to Nancy. The Marchylo and Huntington families. - Posted by: Brian Marchylo (Friend) on: Aug 16, 2023

  • Carole's and my deepest condolences to Fletch's daughters and their families. I worked with Fletch for 3 years in Kenora, On in the mid 80's! He was a great manager to work for and I learned a lot under his tutelage. He always had a smile on his face. Rest in peace Fletch and may God bless! Doug & Carole Penn - Posted by: Rev. Douglas Penn (Friend) on: Aug 10, 2023

  • Sending condolences to all family and friends at this time with the loss of Ewart. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all at this sad time. My wife and i were in Winnipeg in June from Scotland, before visiting the Fletcher family's on the farms around Lyleton. Unfortunately, we did not know that Ewart and family were in Winnipeg at the time. Apologies for not being able to meet up.
